The feelings expressed in the posts below and how they were said got me thinking about what I am convinced it's all really about.
Yes, the 4 (3?) targets were all in the United States. And yes, financial support of Israel and our pushing of continuing the iraqi sanctions and our troops in the Arabina Peninsula are hot buttons for many Muslims, Arab and otherwise.
But that isn't the essential point. A column which I don't have handy from the NY _Post_ pointed out what I've been saying all along. The US isn't the real target, it's all of contemporary and I don't just mean Western European/American civilization but all nations and cultures which seek to aprticipate in the 21st Century. Japan, Singapore, Russia, not just the "North Atlantic Community."
A faction within the Islamic world exists which wants to essentially Talibanize all the predominantly Muslim nations. And it sees contemporary values of indivdual freedom, seeking prosperity, and social development as the source of evil in today's world. AmericA was targeted less for speciifc issues and more because our military and financial strength and our sheer size place us in a leadership role automatically.
I feel ,unless the real issue is understood, no resolution is ever possible and more of us than ever dreamed of it are at risk.
