Oh how I love the internet! Angel season 5 doesn't premiere in sunny ole England until at least January, but due to the wonders of modern technology, I have been able to see the first two episodes of the new season.

I absolutely loved the premiere! I'm not usually one for season openers, but I thought that this one was priceless!

I have been very concerned over the changes proposed for Angel's fifth season, and so far those concerns appear to be groundless. Watching the team come to terms with their new found resources was handled brilliantly and I think it has opened the door to some colourful new characters. Particularly amusing was Angel's initial Spider-man style rescue of a damsel in distress, blink and there's a SWAT team! - LOL

Harmony as the stereotypical dumb blonde secretary was a very wise move. I've never really been a huge fan of this particular vamp, but I think she's going to fit in nicely. She brought back what the last couple of seasons have been missing. An outspoken, foot in mouth, Cordelia!

The fates of both Connor and Cordy were briefly mentioned, which was a surprise. Usually when characters disappear over night, they're never mentioned again, so I was glad to see a bit of continuity, which I think bodes well for the future.

Watching the various members of AI get to grips with their new toys, was equally entertaining. Angel with his fleet of new cars and Fred with her science lab and side kick 'Knoxie' added the right touches of humour and kept the episode light.

Thank heavens that Angel dispatched his special ops team, man were they going to piss me off! I don't really have much more to offer where they are concerned.

Eve will take time to grow on me. She is definately no Lilah, and I think her role would have been much more suited to Stephanie. At the moment, she appears to be a little girl, trying to act all grown up. She has some big shoes to fill, so as of now, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.

And last but in no means least, Spike. What an entrance! I absolutely loved the way he was introduced. I truly believe that Joss & Co excelled themselves in pulling off this latest resurrection (more of that later). I do have one question though....Did Wesley ever meet Spike? Because he seemed to know him pretty darn well, and I can't recall them ever having crossed paths before....hmmm

Right, episode two!

Picks up exactly where we left off, and here is where my praise for Spike's resurrection really comes into play.

Spike is angry and confused and the much anticipated banter between the two soul filled vamps hits the jackpot. Both make their little jibes at eachother and before you know it, their respective relationships with Buffy are brought into the mix, which stirs up some funny reactions from the onlookers (including Harmony!).

Before long it is established that Spike is indeed a ghost and his existence is tied to the amulet. Fred and Wes are on the case and the rest of the episode focuses on Spike and Angel, determined to get under each others feet...well Spike is determined to piss Angel off as much as possible anyway...it's very entertaining, many memorable quotes and all round just what you would have hoped for (IMO).

A couple of scenes will initially have Spike lovers seething with disappointment, but that disappointment will be extremely short lived (to go into details I would have to completely ruin the plot, but you'll know when it happens).

So the first Spike-centric episode has been introduced and I now have no doubt that he will fit in with the rest of the cast beautifully, and I'm sorry but yes I did have my fears.

So far, what am I struggling with?

Gunn as a super lawyer..have to say it's a stretch, but I think I like it. It's about time he got to do something with his character and it should make for some interesting story lines.

AI at Wolfram & Hart...I didn't think it could work, but so far have been proven wrong. Although the good guys don't seem to be achieving much good, it's early days.

Spike. At this point, I'm having trouble with the idea of him staying at AI. He HATES Angel, why would he want to spend the rest of his undead life working with him? Time will tell.

Ok, thats about it. All in all a great start to the new season, I'm impressed. Good light hearted, humourous episodes to make up for the drudgery and torment of last season. Yay team! Wink
