Sprook - I noticed the change, too. I have mixed feelings about it. When I'm at home on dial-up it takes much less time for the pages to load. But the majority of the time I'm at work and then I spend most of my time waiting for the next page to load or searching for the comment / thread that I want.

I wasn't actually informed of this change, and I certainly did not approve it. I'll be talking to Eric soon about this and see what's up. He most likely has a good reason for it. Just wait it out for now. Wink

The changes to the number of topics/posts per page were made by me, to decrease the load time for our dial up users allowing the message board to be enjoyed by more people.

Well, I just found out today my mom has a lump. And here people are complaining about posts per page.

Mac, I am extremely saddened to hear that. Is this an initial discovery or do they know what the cause is? And if you don't want to discuss publicly, I completely understand...

Thanks to all who commented. I'd rather not discuss it in length other than to say, she had her mamogram and the results were that she had a lump. She's going in for an ultrasound tomorrow to find out. Please pray.

Mac, I'm sorry to hear that. I know from personal experience that it's not fun. But just keep a positive mind and remember that a lot of lumps are harmless.

Sprookie hun - I'm convinced Mac knows and understands you're not bitching - you pointed out the problem with uploading the new pages really nicely, I didn't consider it bitchy at all. I just think it's Mac's way of saying that right now, he doesn't have the energy to deal with this. Don't take it personally. Smile

Hey Mac, I was just being cheeky with my "crankypants" remark. My friends and I use that word to make each other laugh when we're, well being cranky.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. My mom one time had a mammogram that said they found a lump, so she had to go in for a follow up mammogram the day they were going to do the biopsy and found out that they made a mistake, that there was no lump. However, they did leave my poor mom sitting there in the mammogram machine thingy while the nurse made the doctor double check. Let me just say OUCH.

I am very surprised and offended to hear the adverse reactions to the change. It was done to help people view the site. I have no problems because I am on a T1, with only 3 other people I might add, but the majority of the site's (and the world's) users are on dial-up, we have had a SHARP decline in users lately and we have had MANY complaints about load time, despite was you may assume. That is why we added the mod do disable Ava's and siggys, and that is why we changed the display posts. When I tested the changes it cut the board's load time nearly in half, which combined with the Ava, siggy deactivation has reopened our board to dial up users. I choose 25 display topics because when browsing around the web that’s the number that most other boards had theirs set on. I am sorry if this had caused one or two people trouble, but it has help hundreds of potential users.

BlkswanPres - I'm sorry that my opinion on the new page numbers offended you. And I know that as a non-dial-up user, stuff loads faster for me. I just got really confused. But I'll also admit that one of the smaller things that attracted me to HMC was the fact that it had more posts per thread page. I understand your reasoning and I'm not asking you to change it back, but just from reading responses from both sides, to me things sound a little harsh. I'm know you're just trying to make things easier for people and I respect that. I think a lot of this was just confusion. A little warning would have been nice so people wouldn't think they were going crazier.
