Third Hellmouth Ascension

Whatever. I couldn't even make myself read the whole thing. It's like trying to listen to a teenager with nothing valuable to say. Seriously! You need serious help! Like I like Angel too but like seriously... am I all like waaah? Ummmm... No... Like totally.

How she got a column, I'll never know. There were a lot of well-said, TRUE things written about her here--I wonder why she didn't pick any of those.

Did you notice how proud of herself she is for contributing such fine literature to the topic?

Like this one time at band camp.... I mean really!

And it is SO repetitive!

The column is pathetic. There's not much fresh content on the main page that I'm interested in anymore. I used to love the rant, but the combo thing they've been doing lately is not very interesting--it even takes forever to get to the actual rant. I miss the old rant. (Sorry Mac and Eric--I guess I'm just not in the audience for that kind of humor... However, you guys still are pretty good--way better than Tiffany.) Aeryn's "hippy" column (WHERE does Tiffany get that??) shows promise. She, thankfully, had a topic and did not repeat one point over and over again--and she doesn't write like a valley girl. So, go Aeryn!

If Mac actually wanted a serious well-written Hellmouth Ascension, he could find somebody, I'm sure. There are plenty of excellent writers at this board. At this point, with Tiffany continuing to have a column (with hardly a positive word said about here here), I'm thinking that there are some factors we don't know about. Maybe he doesn't want to hurt her feelings, maybe he likes the controversy, maybe he just doesn't care, or maybe he thinks she's pretty good. Maybe she's his sister's best-friend's boyfriend's roommate's cousin.

Whatever it is, it's pretty clear our opinions don't matter. So, why am I writing this??? Because, even if nobody's listening, I'll still say how I feel about it.

Oh, and if she actually has a fan base (which I think she's just posturing about--I don't remember actually reading that quote anywhere), why are they not defending her here?

And before you think I don't like her column because I disagree, that's not it. If she had any talent as a writer, I would be a lot more generous. And I really do mean any talent. If she had the ability to present her ideas in a reasoned, logical way--with supports, then I could easily forgive the grammar problems.

(And she can't see the obvious superiority of shows in the Buffyverse/WhedonWorld? Why is she here again, writing for a show she only kinda likes?)

Still improving. However she could use a little more proof reading. When a normal poster throws out a remark, you expect a few typos & misused words to crop up. With a columnist the proofing should be more stringent. As a reader, I can pick out flaws such as “writing the Olympics” instead of "winning" them, "there" instead of "their" or other such irrelevant mistakes. I prefer to look at the intended meaning and ignore flubs. I don’t care about these minor mistake issues, as long as the errors do not harm or obscure the message. Personally I have and will continue to make plenty of my own typos, punctuation and definition errors. In any case, I do not need or want one columnist telling me the other columnist makes more errors.

What is with HMC columnists bashing one another? There are plenty of fans, outside columnists, actors and TV executives available to be bashed. We don’t need an inter column war. There is a place for both acerbic humor and analytic discussion in a pleasant “hippy rant” style. There are some people (Me included) who like and appreciate both styles. I personally enjoy the overstatement and hyper inflated ego reflected in the humorous ranting of Tiffany. I am also a fan of the polite discussion contained in the other column. Both have their place on the board. I believe it is easier to write a criticism of a show or article than it is to write a positive well reasoned supportive critique. Don't assume that an article is weak, poorly thought out and pandering to the public, just because it is positive towards the show.

The OC is cool? Well maybe if you snack on motel room soap bars & mistake them for white chocolate. Rolling Eyes Doctor, Doctor I got the OC Blehs! Cool

I don't usually read people's columns here - something I have to correct now that I have more time in the evenings - but I read the Hellmouth Ascension because some people asked me to take a look at it. And I'll go with what's been said... it sounds like a teen throwing a tantrum. I get the messages she's trying to convey, but the way she's trying to convey them, whoa...

Anyway... just my opinion.

Mac-I just enjoyed the old format better, that's all. I feel as if my time has been in really short supply lately, so I want to get to the point in everything QUICKER! Smile Also, I liked the essay style, because you went into further detail in your reasons. Maybe it's just because I'm a snobby English teacher. Smile I can, however, appreciate the current format. It's supposed to be funny, I get it. Smile Hey, you can't please everybody! Smile

Anyway... I just finished my last paper, so I'm officially on summer break. Don't know yet whether I'll take more classes this summer.

So, I'm a lot more happy and easy about things. I don't care quite as much about the whole Tiffany fiasco. Smile Maybe it IS a joke!! Maybe it's Jonathan in drag. Smile

This girl cannot write. She goes on and on for like 20 years, but it's the same shit over and over. I agree with Otts, it just sounds like a teen throwing a tantrum. A little advice, Tiffany...go out and have this so-called life you seem to be so proud of, and leave the writing for the people who are actually fans of the show, like Aeryn....I like her columns. This type of over the top immature rant is designed to stir things up. Judging by this and the prior thread it succeeded. I may not agree with a lot of what she attempts to say, but it is fun to come here and reply in kind by ranting about her misguided rant.

Same here.The really sad part is that she's most likely older than me and even I think she sounds immature.
