Hello

My name is Mary Kirby Diaz, and I'm a college professor.

My latest research project is a study of buffy and angel fandom. I've written a short survey, called "'ships and fics", and would appreciate being able to announce the project at hellmouthcentral, and solicit for volunteers to complete the survey.

The results of the survey will be published in a book on buffy and angel fandom, due next fall (2005), and in a guide to fanfic, due this fall (2004).

A copy of the survey is available, and I've posted it below. I hope that you will agree to announce the survey; I think many of your visitors might be interested in its results, and may even want to contribute their ideas about 'ships and fics.

Why do you think they belong together?

I liked them because they started out with a nice, normal, healthy relationship. It was a nice touch to the show, not being a lesbian myself, and even liking Oz/Willow before. The character blossomed, and I thought it was one of Joss' best couples. Of course like everything in the ME world it didn't last. They were ying and yang, IMO.

Why do you think they belong together?
I think that Buffy and Angel belong together because they have been through so much, and through it all have still been able to maintain a friendship. I know they don't talk anymore, but they do have lives of their own. I think they belong together because they understand each other and even after years of not seeing each other, still love each other and share a bond/connection.

What make this your favorite fanfic? I'm a big fan of AU fanfic, and Domestication just catches me and reels me in. It's a B/A fanfic and Buffy and Angel are Slayer and Vampire. But it's not Sunnydale, it's a different world. It has a lot of angst, which I love, but it also has its fluffy moments which every fic needs.

About how much time do you spend reading fanfic each week? Too much. lol. I'd probably say at least 3 hours a day, on average. So roughly 21 hours a week.

Wouldn't this type survey/research be better if done over email? I mean, that way it would be confidential and people would not have to post their private information on a msg board, and if you have already, u might want to delete it. Few of those answers could be used if someone was stalking u or to steal your identy.

Makd, I do ask this, if you plan on having people complete this survey, please encourage email, so that people can email you this survey instead of using a msg board for their protection and that of your research study.

Angel and Spike belong together because they have such a connection. They've known eachother for 150+ years. That's a lot of history. And we haven't even gotten half of what happened in those years. The two also click with one another. Their chemistry is so noticible. When they stand in the same room, it's obvious that they have something going on. Plus come on! What could be better then two hunks getting together?!?

It's full of everything. It starts out with Angel and Spike teaming up to fight this demon. Then during thier time together, they start to flashback to times when they were evil and with Dru and Darla. It has great sex scenes as well as very intimate dream sequences. The dialogue is right on que with the characters and the story is exciting.
