Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Here are several questions that come up on a quasi-regular basis. Hopefully, this information will be helpful.

How do I add a picture to my post?
Use the following code, taking out the spaces:
[i m g]www.thisistheurlofmypicture.com[/i m g]

How do I post a picture in my signature?
Go to your profile (there's a link near the top of the screen) and find the section where you can customize your signature (sometimes called a "siggy"). In that box you use the same format as you would to add a picture to a post.

Why doesn't my picture show up?
In my experience, this is usually caused by one of two things. Either the site where your picture is located does not allow "hosting" (meaning you can't store a picture there and access it somewhere else), or you have a typo in your coding. Make sure you use [i m g] and [/i m g] with NO spaces and that you have the url of the picture's location correct

**A note about pictures - per the board rules, please make sure that any pictures you post in your signature or in a post are no more than 400 pixels wide. This helps keep the frame from being to wide for the screen.**

How do I get an avatar?
Go to your profile (there's a link near the top of the screen) and scroll all the way down to the bottom. There you will find a section that shows what your current avatar is. In that section there is a button to go to HMC's own Jossverse gallery.

How do I post my own avatar?
Again in the avatar section of your profile, you will find a space to enter the url of the picture you want as your avatar. **Per the board rules, please make sure that your avatar is no more than 150 pixels wide. This helps keep the frames from becoming too wide for the screen.**

How do I access a Shipper Forum?
Click the link near the top of the screen that is entitled "Usergroups." Under "Join a Group" choose the shipper forum you wish to join. Your information will be sent to the mods of that particular forum who will then give you access. This may take a day or two if that mod is not online.

Can we add a new Shipper Forum?
At this time, we will not be adding any more shipper forums. The main reason these forums began was to curtail the angst between shippers whose ships obviously clashed. You can, however, start a thread in the General Discussion Forum about whatever ship it is you want to talk about.

What is that title under people's names?
The post titles under the user names are just for fun. The only real meaning they have is that they change when you reach a certain number of posts. They also designate moderators.

How can I change my user name?
Only our webmaster Matt can change your user name. Send him a Private Message (PM) if you want this done.

Now that Angel is over, will HMC shut down?
No no no no and NO!!!! Matt and Eric have said that they will keep the site up even if they are the only people who come by. The main page (www.hellmouthcentral.com) gets an enormous amount of unique hits everyday, and the posting board is still humming.
