M. Night Shyamalan's THE VILLAGE starts this friday. Anyone looking forward to seeing it? All the hype and M. Night Shyamalan's attitude is giving me a headache.

After seeing the SIXTH SENSE and UNBREAKABLE, I wonder if he is going for another twist here at the end and if it will be satisfying. Even SIGNS had a twist at the end...the signs were 'real'.

I loved SIXTH SENSE because I was not spoiled and the twist at the end worked beautifully. I was bored with UNBREAKABLE but I do find myself thinking about this movie...and maybe the mark of a good movie is that it makes you remember and think. I don't know. I didn't want to see SIGNS but I finally rented it and I liked it...I liked the way it played out.

Wretch & Mr. Pointy...your opinions regarding Shyamalan?

Shocked

Myth, I know I just confessed my love to you in another thread but hot damn, I LOVE YOU!

rollin'

I loooove M. Night Shyamalan's work! His movies always have a different twist that isn't expected so much. Original. . .at least compared to the other crap I've seen rollin'

The Sixth Sense, was awesome! I think I went to the movies three times to see it. Bruce Willis. . .oooo scary. . .Haley O o o Scarier!

Ubreakable. . .Samuel is the man of weird. . .Laughing

Signs. . .holy crap I've seen it like twenty times! Everytime it's on, I watch it. It totally creeps me! I loved the kids in the show, sooo cute. Mel, oh how I love thee. . .It had me going "ooo" and "RUN DAMNIT". . .

So I guess this means that you will be seeing THE VILLAGE...wild guess on my part...ROTFLMAO.

My son said he read some reports from a pre-screening and everything was 'thumbs up'...the horror movie they were waiting for!! There were pre-screenings? Shocked I just don't picture Shyamalan doing a pre-screening. Heck, didn't he reshoot the ending like last month?

Oh...and THE SIXTH SENSE did give us the "I see dead people" phrease. So creepy then and so overused since.

Me? Oh gosh...ummmmm.

OK; I think that Sixth Sense is probably going to be the best film he ever makes. Unbreakable is a film that gets better with repeated viewings, and Signs is one that doesn't hold up so well. (The aliens are allergic to water? Rolling Eyes )

I am looking forward to The Village, I suppose, but I think I may be getting tired of Shymalamadingdong's M.O. ie. Big stories told in small ways, a re-vamp on an established fantasy genre ( TSS= Ghost Story, UB= Cmic Book Hero, Signs = Alien Invasion), his deliberately paced and overly stylistic scene set ups and of course the obligitory "twist-in-the tail"

I have also heard that the "Twist" in The Village is ridiculous, but that is just a rumour. And the trailer does look very good so here's hoping.

Personally, I find that he comes across as quite arrogant and egotistical in interviews, and I think his decision to cast himself in the pivitol role in Signs was a very bad one indeed. A cameo (like in TSS and UB) is fine, but he did not have the acting chops to pull off the scene and his presence took me out of the movie.

SIGNS was ridiculous IMHO.

Point> Aliens can travel thru interstellar space without wearing clothing to a planet that's 3/4 water which is deadly to them?!!! WTF! The creep stuff was OK - and the tin foil hats were priceless. Where's Geo. Pal when you need him?

Shamalyan telegraphs his story points like mad.

Without the gimmick in TSS, the story is servicable...barely. Osment's creey eyed Shining Danny vibe makes it tho.

Unbreakable is the best of the 3 IMHO -- "They call me Mr Glass".

Unbreakable is the one that i watch the most...in fact it's one the DVD's I find myself watching repeatedly (even if the climax is shot and staged very murkily).

What is this? Some lame movie about mysterious creatures? And how many of these do we have already? Ah well.....if it's good I suppose that is irrelevant. I'll be sure and check the reviews before I think about seeing this one.

Myth, if you're interested AintItCool.Com has just put up two reviews from a recent screening of "The Village".

Both viewer's claim to be huge M. Night fans....and they both hated it.

The reviews are pretty light on spoilers, so if ya wanna read em yourself just head on over.

Thanks Mr. P. I am leary about seeing the VILLAGE right away. As soon as I saw the previews I had an idea of what the twist would be....God, I hope not!!

I am looking forward to THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE and even COLLATERAL. Hmmmm...an evil Tom Cruise. I think it would be interesting seeing him play a sociopath.

Gee I feel lost & lonely in this thread. Despite my like of Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Action flicks/stories, I have never been a big fan of 'Horror' movies. The previews make this seem more of a horror than a fantasy style movie, is that correct?

ps I consider Buffy & Angel to both be Fantasy.

supernatural thriller is what I lump it in, but I think we are on same page.

Just look at his other ones, sixth sense, unbreakable, signs...... all to me supernatural thrillers.

Fogey - just go see it!!!!!!!! You have your orders and then tell us where you would lump it. I love all the films....I drool for horror flicks.

Michael Man fan here too. MANHUNTER made an impression...couldn't believe that it was made for TV. It was better quality then the movies on the big screen.

I was reading some reviews and viewer comments today...they are all over the place. Most give it 6 out of 10 stars. Guess you have to be a fan of Shaymalan's. A lot of viewer's are complaining about the marketing and were greatly disappointed.

Had to edit here because the MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE is getting reviews all over the place too.

Doesn't it just blow your mind when one reviewer says WOW and then the next says..sucks big time?

I liked the twist.....and Ivy is my hero Cool The "creatures" were fairly creepy....but i still don't get the whole "This color is not allowed,it attracts them" deal. I could tell everyone else in the theatre were definitely dissappointed....mainly because it was an M. Night Shyamalan movie! Rolling Eyes Less gore,more...other stuff...

meh. it was ok. It's by far the weakest film MNS has done. The "twist", if you can call it that, is pretty ridiculous. There were things I did like, but overall was very disappointed.

How was Adrien Brody as the 'village idiot'?

The acting would have probably been better if the dialogue wasn't so damned annoying. Brody was awesome though. He did very well, so did the female lead.

I went to see The Village solely because I had to know what "The Twist" was. Its weird that everyone is calling it that cuz that's what I was just thinking. Very Happy The only other MNS movie I've seen is Signs and I like the plot of The Village alot better. Signs was scarier though. Its telling that I find aliens to be scarier than any movie monsters.

It's raining so I got a chance to watch the TODAY show this am. Gene Shallit reviewed the VILLAGE....oh my Shocked MNS sent out word to all reviewers to not give away any of the plot while doing their reviews. Shallit said this was easy...you can't give away a plot when there isn't any. He also said that MNS didn't have any ideas for making a new movie...but went ahead and made the movie anyway. Ouch!

Saw it. I guessed the ending a while back and then had my guess confirmed. Glad I knew the ending otherwise I would have been disappointed. Being spoiled, I sat back and watched the movie play out and I liked it. It did touch some nerves..grrrr. I have no idea why Adrien Brody took the part that he did.

The actress that plays Ivy is Bryce Howard...daughter of Ron Howard. She did a wonderful job in the part and she is quite the natural beauty too.
