What do you think will happen...a hit or a miss?

Nothing, but nothing is going to happen regarding any possible ATS related telemovies until Joss gets through with making SERENITY. Considering his reaction to the early cancellation of FIREFLY and his obsession with getting the big screen version done, if it flops I think the man may have a meltdown...don't you?

I definitely think that all of us who enjoyed, heck craved BTVS and ATS, will venture out and see the flick because we know the power, the talent that is Joss Whedon but 'our numbers' won't guarantee a box office hit.. Critical acclaim doesn't guarantee anything either. This movie is going to have a 'good buzz' from people that see it to draw in more theater going crowds. There is going to have to be action, excitement...a good ride jammed into an hour and a half. P,lus, can you imagine people reading advance word on this film...'cowboys in outer space? Think Joss will do it? I think the pressure is immense and I wonder if Joss got full financial backing for this film or if he sank his own funds into it.

Good news Wretch....glad you got the missing eps.

If he got full studio financing...then that is even more pressure to have a hit.

Speaking from no-budget land myself, it's a LOT of pressure.

Home freakin' run.

Oh, you mean box office? It's got enough of that "action blockbuster" feel for people just looking for a good time to go and people in the know on what it's really like are sure to go. I predict good things. But then again no one listens to me anyway. Heres hopin'.

My girlfriend hooked me on Firefly while I was in Texas. Saw the boxed set, and finally saw things in sequence. I was so glad I wasn't a fan while it was on TV, because I would have gon ballistic when the pulled it without even a whole season. This way, I can look forward to the movie.

I think it is going to be a major success. For one thing, like Wretch says, with financing and no pressure to do anything but what he wants with it, Joss is going to go full steam ahead.

And with what already exists, in terms of characters and stories, it can't NOT be good. Plus, there will be all the Buffy and Angel fans hungry for ANYTHING Joss, not to mention the die-hard Firefly fans.

I predict a hit.

I voted a hit for Serenity. That is what I hope for but I do wonder if Joss caters more to a cult of ME fans than to the general public? I think one of the main reasons he got full financing was the good sales of the Firefly DVD's. That indicates a strong existing fan base (Take that network dorks! LOL). I hope this fanbase is large enough to help generate the excitement that will bring newbies in to see Firefly. So I think there is a good chance that Serenity will succeed.

i think it'll be a hit. the trailer is going to have to be 'when does that movie come out' that'll get people in the theater. Joss knows that and he won't dissappoint.

SERENDITY? I've never heard of this SERENDITY. But I have heard of a film coming out next year on April 22nd, 2005 called SERENITY, I think it may just have a chance of breaking even.

I think it would be a HIT.
At least I know I would watch it... and I know twenty-seven other people who are dying to see something else of Firefly. So yeah. Hit.

Are we asking if the movie will be a hit or if it will be good?

I think it ill definitely be good because Whedon has so much riding on this, and as a director I think he has a lot to prove.

Ifthe film is good then it will be sucessful. BUt will it be an out of the park smash? At this point I don't think it's likely mainly becuse it is only appealing to established FF fans (hardly a mass market), Whedon-heads and sci-fi freaks, and even sci-fiers will only jump on to something if they think they are going to get something different.

For the film to be a big hit it needs crossover appeal and at this stage there is nothing about the project that seems to offer this to the GP (general puplic). the only teaser poster so far simply features a space ship. This aint 1978, everyone has seen a spaceship in movies before.. The GP needs a hook, a point of difference that will make them ant to check it out. A rag-tag crew trawling the far reaches of space getting into adventures and what not is exactly the sort of synopsis that makes the average joe scream "Nerd Alert!!".

No i'm quite sure JW and the studio (is it Universal? I cant remember) are well aware of this and Joss has knocked up one hell of a story for the project, but untill I see a trailer I feel that this film is doomed to a loyal but very limited following.

Hopefully, it'll be a hit.

If not, then maybe Joss could carry on the Fireflyness with graphic novels etc

Hi River...nice to meet you.

Mr. P- Thanks...you put my feelings into words. The trailer is going to have to be something that is going to grab the GP interest and then good word of mouth for others to see it. It is a given that we Whedonverse fans will see it. Anyway I look at it...it's a lot of pressure for Joss to deliver...not just to cover the financial backing but for his rep in the industry if he wants to go and stay big screen.

What Mr. Pointy said, only shorter. I don't think it's going to be a box office smash, but it should do okay. And I think/hope it's going to be good.

I vote hit. I'm hoping enough people see it opening weekend and then spread the good word and so on and so on........................
I think Joss has alot riding on this. If its a winner, the studio's will make Buffy/Angel movies, if it doesn't make money, they'll be less likely to invest in future projects.

Well, Firefly just gained one more fan and I'm now very anxious for the movie. On a whim I bought Firefly simply because I had the money and it's Joss. I never saw it when it was on TV. I watched all 14 episodes in one day and I now have one more obsession. I loved it. I think that the movie will be a hit with the Joss fans and FF fans. With other people, it depends on how the trailors turn out.

I think the film will make money because of the lack of star salaries in the budget. I would have to see how much the film is budgeted for, but I don't think it can be that much. The question is, will the studio spend enough to promote it to make it a success? (Hi, Myth!)
