Thoughts on the new Angel comics? Loved the Wesley/Fred/Illyria story in the latest. And Kate's back! Also, (SPOILER ALERT), did the Shanshu work???!?!?!

I read the angel comics, but not the After the fall one I don't think cause I don't remember Kate.

After the Fall is Whedon's season six for Angel. It picks up a few months after the events of the final episode of Angel. The Senior Partners literally send LA to hell. The whole place has broken down into being run by demon warlords (including Illyria and Lorne). Spike is Illyria's pet. Connor is protecting humans with his warriors, Nina the Werewolf and Gwen Electro Girl. There's a lot of other surprises in there, too, which I won't go into to keep from ruining the surprises...

****SPOILERS****

So, Angel is human and trying to keep up the pretenses of being a vampire. Very unexpected and very awesome.
Kate was a huge shock, right up there with HumanAngel. I'm kind of curious as to what Elizabeth Rhom would say about her character returning in the comics.
I'm actually liking Connor right now. Spike and Illyria are funny. Lorne is still in it. I'm waiting to see more of Gunn, I feel like we haven't seen enough of him yet. Wesley as a ghost agent of Wolfram & Hart is interesting. I'm waiting to see if they force him to do something bad to Angel somehow.

Indeed, but I'm not convinced that Angel is human. Methinks something else is afoot. Kate was a pleasant surprise to me, especially given that she's a lot less whiney than she was. Far more bitter, too.

Angel's dragon that he wanted to slay is excellent, and the fish's sudden reading of the vamp - what's a slayer? Nice. I was worried that since two companies had the properties, they would never cross over again.

They may not be able to get Buffy and Co but they could get slayers. They had Slayers in S5 of the show, so I would assume that they could create original character slayers for the Angel comics.

Yeah, I was concerned that they cut some funky deal that would cut the entire Slayer option from the storylines... Maybe the two can do a crossover!

So has everyone here read First Night (the most recent of the After the Fall/S6)?

SPOILERS AHEAD....

I like how they've shown how they all got to where they are now in the timeline (since it's showing literally what happened after Angel says "I wanna slay the dragon").

I'm with Seven on something afoot. Joss is at the helm and stuff never stays the way it appears in his worlds.

I've been getting them via the online method (& will buy the omnibus...omnibi?? editions when all are said & done) for Buffy, Angel & Firefly (it's holding me over until Dollshouse).

Highly doubt we'll get a decent crossover ie character visitation, rather it'd probably have to be an original since they are two different companies making the respective new seasons :)

I'm guessing the slayers Andrew had in LA are the slayers in the comics.

I just got these all today and read them so here are my thoughts:

MAD that we aren't back to the fight where Illyria/Fred saw Wesley!!!!!!!!!!! I want to see the rest of that!

The how Wes got brought into this storyline was good.

Angel is a human, but it isn't the shanshu, I think W&H took his powers away so that they could have more control over him and keep him in hell.

Love that Kate is back, want to see more of her. I loved seeing Lorne. Everyone is going to flip when the see Gunn as a vamp. I thought he was good till I realized he wasn't. How did Groo get to hell? LOL In LA living I guess.

I loved Lorne's line about how Wes was dressed in that suit, it must be hell or something like that.

I prefer having them all together then separated throughout hell. That was annoying.

My mind is reeling with all the possibilities of this season. And I have to go read the Wes/Fred parts over and over again. LOL

Is the whole Shanshu thing in the background? The Shanshu storyline is what invested me in AtS. The last episode ended with Angel signing away his destiny(though we saw in "The House Always Wins" that he can get it back) and that makes Spike the Shanshu by default. In most cases a destiny is meant for one person alone but sometimes an event will occur that can shift that destiny to another. By all rights the fates should be guiding Spike towards his new shiny destiny as Shanshu. Also, there's the matter of the geas Angel is under. Being human won't change the conditions upon which his soul was granted to him. At least I don't think it will. *shrug* A geas can be broken or at least changed to make it bearable.

I'm waiting for the whole series to finish so I can get all the issues in one book. :) I'm a cheap bastard.
Yes...I'm that Bitsy.

Bitsy, yeppers, the Shanshu is in there, it would appear (***spoilers***Angel is revealed to be human now a few issues back and is using a glamour to make himself still look vampiric***/spoiler***). And, After the Fall is a pretty long-running series and I believe that the first collection in trade format will be out soon.

Woo Hoo on the collections! Have been getting them as electronics until I can get them as an omnibus or the like (as I've got with Fray, Buffy -not current, Tales of the Vampires).

Curious to see how they are going to play out the Shanshu deal.
