Members here are from all over, so it is a good way to see how we are suffering with the gas prices. I think we are all going to see some major hikes in prices for the holiday weekend. Right now in Michigan we are going over the $4.00 mark for a gallon of regular. What's the price at the pump for you and what area?
Some days its not even worth chewing through the restraints.

There is a reason why Jake and I only use one car...

About $3.89 if you shop around but some stations are about a dime higher.

We are hearing how high petrol/gasoline prices are around the world at present.

Not sure how much the ratio of gallon : litre is though....(if I wasn't racing to work I'd go hunt a conversion for ya.... ).

For us in Queensland, Australia (it varies between the states here too) it is around $1.62 a litre (um, I think our currency equivalent is AUD95-96c to American $1). Someone else can work that :D. Diesel on the other hand sucks big time (apparently I just have a normal fuel car).

Yeah, we are spoilt, though many are bitching heartily about it as that is nearly tripled in the past 2 years (apparently Oz is 4th lowest developed country fuel prices.

1 US Gallon = 3.785 Litres rounded. So 1.62 * 3.785 = $6.13AUD per US gallon.

Going the other way $6.13/.95 = $6.45US. Your gas is about $6.45US per gallon LOL I am sure someone will gently correct my math if I did this wrong.

We are 3.89 here as well. Just 3 days ago it was 20 cents cheaper but since the price of the barrels went sky high we also made a jump. No vacation for us this year. No MI trip.

Ramones, the media here remind everyone on Monday & Tuesday to go fill up becauce come Wed they starting hiking - up to 20c each week. By Sunday they start going back down....unless of course it's a holiday weekend then they stay high until Tuesday. :D

We had images in the news last night of various American gas stations & their prices. It was very educational.

We're at about 1.25$CAD / litre here... so by Fogey's math that is $4.73CAD/gallon... and I'm not gonna do the currency conversion.

Thank GOD for our public transit; Otts and I pay $73/month each for our passes and only fill the gas tank every 3-4 weeks.

I think I saw one gas station with 4.16 posted yesterday. Argh.

We have NO public transportation here except for the occasional bus with the stops being a mile or two from home. It's horrible. Detroit had great 'electric trolleys' back when ....saw pics of Downtown Detroit, but the tracks were torn up when Ford, GM and Chrysler became the main companies here in Michigan. Yes, it's very true that the car companies killed the electric cars...all kinds. Frickers!! This has been a bitch of mine since I was in college when I first started my enviromentalist ways. At least some of the college towns here have a Greyhound bus station or a train station, so the college kids can come home on breaks without parents driving back and forth all the time.

I put 2 SMART cars on reserve. You've seen them maybe....they are about as big as a doghouse LOL. The wait list is 12 to 18 months, so I figured I'd reserve 2 because my kids should be able to handle car payments by then.

Lets string the politicians up by their testicles until they force the issue with car manufacturers to start producing cars with 70+mpg ratings. Don't tell me we don't have smart enough people to produce it...there is money exchanging between the auto manufacturers and the gas comglomerates. Bastards!

Plus...minimum wage stuck back in the golden ages...lets kick that sucker up to $10 ASAP so the comon people can maybe pay rent! Damn politicians! How can the lower working class make it? It's nuts! Gas was $3.97 but didn't check today.
Do or do not, there is no try.

Well until October-November.

Gas prices range between $3.89-4.09, depending on what part of town you're in.

The largest deposits of fossil fuels in the world are in the Green River Basin in Colorado and Utah. Estimates put it at possibly 2 trillion, yes, trillion, barrels of oil that can be extracted from oil shale in that area. The oil companies think they can extract usable crude oil from this oil shale for around $30-$40 a barrel. Experts think if we can start large-scale extraction of oil from that area within five years, we can be completely independent of foreign oil by 2020.

A hundred dollars less for a barrel of oil than what we pay now. Hundreds of thousands of new jobs. Billions of dollars in tax money.

And the politicians said no.

I wished the city I lived in had decent public transport (fyi for those aware Brisbane). Instead of focusing on getting that better - just announced many millions in the budget to build more tunnels, bridges, roads............and only 400 more buses (um my city is over 1 million in population & sprawled apparently akin to LA).

Pft! I wouldn't be able to get to the factory I'm mentoring training without a car (as I learnt when my car had an accident ....)

Wish I could get rid of it & just hire when doing big destinations.
