Just thought I'd share with everyone that I proposed to my girlfriend last night on the beach. She said yes. So your webmaster is now an engaged man. :D

What do you do when the one thing you need to save your life is the one thing that would make life unbearable?

Congratulations, Matt.
Marriage is a wonderful thing. You always know who your date will be on Saturday night.
NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!! Congrats, man! Welcome to the crazy world of wedding planning!
You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me!

Thanks Fiat! :D Well, we aren't getting married for at least a year. She wants a fall wedding, so it'll probably be fall '09. :)

Congrats Matt! And as Fiat's dad would say, remember that there are three rings involved: first the engagement ring, then the wedding ring, and finally the suffering ;)
Officially twisted since 1971.

Thanks hippie and otts! :D
Otts - Yeah, we're working on the engagement ring right now. I'm letting her pick it out. I figured that was the best way. As for the suffering, that happens from time to time already, so yay for future suffering!

From my experience, you'll be thankful for having a full year to plan. Sooooooooooo many more options when you book things ahead of time and there's lot of time to realize that it really is okay NOT to have a particular flower for the centerpieces when it would cost more than the meal itself!
And yes, Otts did quote my father correctly!

fiat - Well, I'm not sure how much prep work it will take. We've already decided that it will be more of a celebration than a ceremony. So I don't know if we're gonna have things like centerpieces or maybe I'm being gullable...?
Thanks Fogey! :D
Thanks Nora! Your baby is in fact getting married. :D

The only advice I can give on that front is to make sure you two sit down and talk about this stuff. Doesn't have to be an "all at once" deal, but it's amazing how often something one person will take for a given with be completely off the other person's radar.
Meh, don't sweat it. Dude, you popped the question! Enjoy the afterglow!!!

Congrats, Matt! I'm really happy for you. Just some friendly advice from someone who has over twelve years of wedded bliss under her belt... Know that you will go through bad times (I'm afraid that's just life), but when things get bad, also know that with determination the two of you can get through it. Believe me, there have been times when I didn't think my husband and I were going to make it, but I love him more now than I did the day I married him. I say we're still together and happy because we both love each other so much. He says it's because we're both too stubborn to give up. And we're both right. Ok, thus endeth the speech. ;)
