LOS ANGELES, CA, March 30, 2004 - In an unbelievable and unsolicited manner, fans of the recently canceled TV series “Angel” are raising funds for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank in order to let the WB Network officials know that they want their show back!
The campaign, started by fans on the WB’s Angel message board, has spread rapidly across the internet. Over $9,000 has been donated so far during the campaign.
Fans donating through the website http://www.angelsfooddrive.com, are able to click links to notify the media of their contributions, send email postcards to the network and leave comments in the pledge book. Fans can also see the notice of cancellation from the WB network as well as a note to the fans from the shows creator, Joss Whedon.
“The WB has made a mistake in canceling Angel. The ratings are up and the critics are raving about the current season. We want to show the WB the depth of the fans devotion to this show,” said one member of the food drive.
“I’m amazed at the support of the show‚s fans,” says Darren Hoffman, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank. “I don‚t remember hearing about this being done by fans for any other shows.”
Whether the fans can save their show remains to be seen. But the good being done by the food drive is proof that the moral of helping those in need is getting through the audience who watches this witty and suspenseful show.
The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is a private, non-profit, charitable organization established in 1973 and is now the second largest food bank in the United States. Through a network of more than
1,000 charities, the Foodbank supplies food for 350,000 people in Los Angeles County each week.
