VAMPIRE LADY WROTE:I could so totally see you as a librarian. What do you have to do to become one? Maybe I'll switch from English editor to librarian. Wait, which one deals with less people?

Well you need to get a Masters to be a librarian. So you could always get your English degree, become an editor, and then if you don't like it go to UK for your MLIS.

That sounds like a fantabulous plan! :D For now, I shall stick with editor. I still like that idea. 8-)

And if you don't want to deal with people as much you can always become a cataloger or work for a special library.

I really like the idea of not dealing with people. It's why I have no problem working third shift in a t-shirt printing warehouse/factory. I only deal with the same 15 or so people and I know what to expect from them.

Yeah but I hate to break it to you, but you're going to have to deal with the public at least a little bit no matter what kind of librarian you become. And since most libraries are doing copy cataloging, and not hiriring catalogers, that would perhaps be a bad concentration for you, as you might not have a job.

Yeah. Like I said, I'll stick with editing for now and see how all that works out. But I still gotta finish school first. Give me two years for that and then I'll get back to you about it.

Yeah, getting your Bachelors would be a good thing.

It very much would be. But I have a good feeling about it all at the moment. Hopefully it stays that way.

Did you ever read a book that completely sucks, but has somehow hooked you in to where you still read it? I'm reading The Ruins by Scott Smith. It sucks. It's about four idiots being terrorized by a freaking killer vine. The lead idiot is such a Gary Stu it makes me want to puke. I'm looking forward to some of the character dying (especially Gary Stu). And the style of writing is annoying as all get out. The word "then" does not appear in the book. Instead of "Gary Stu walked down the hill then tried to hail one of the Mayans" it's "Gary Stu walked down the hill, tried to hail one of the Mayans."

But dammit all, I'm still reading it. And I want to know how it ends.

Never read it, heard the movie was crap. Want an ending? Watch the crappy movie. Trust me, crappy movies are easier to get through than crappy books.

From what I've read, they used a different ending for the movie.

I'll probably finish it this weekend. I haven't decided what I'll read next. I'm leaning towards starting the Rogue Angel written by "Alex Archer" (Mel Odom, among others). He wrote some Buffy novels I think I liked. And I've been reading the comics. They aren't rocket science, but they hold my interest.

But I also finally bought a copy of Dune and that's a book I've been wanting to read for years.

Maybe I'll just flip a coin.

Right now I'm reading A Lick of Frost by Laurell K. Hamilton. It's good, but I wish I would have figured out before I started reading it that it's part of a series. A lot of things they talk about would probably make more sense if I started at the beginning.

I'm still finishing up Stephen King's Skeleton Crew. I'm also reading Patricia Brigg's Blood Bound. It's the second book in the Mercedes Thompson series. She's a skinwalker living in a world of werewolves and vampires. It's really good.

Laurell K. Hamilton has some kind of vampire comic series out from Marvel. I know squat about it other than it exists and the art looks really horrid.

It's based off her first Anita Blake book.

Laurell's books work better in sequence IMHO.

Sorry Don, not heard of that one (but I think I'm glad).

Just finished Kelley Armstrong's latest Personal Demon. I still like them.

Now have Kim Harrison's and Sherrilyn Kenyon's latest on the reading table - see how they are faring.

I think learning the craft has made it so much harder for me to read for pure pleasure these days (not to mention I actually have to get bum on seat and er, write my own stories LMAO).

Am currently getting through Marian Keyes latest This Charming Life. It's SO big  too big to hold whilst laying in bed at night. :o

Oh & also have um, Back Spin (I think) by Harlan Coben.

Still prefer Kathy Reichs over Patricia Cornwell.

Blood Bound was good. Reading LKH's The Harlequin. It's an Anita Blake. Sometimes I just need the smut. Will be reading Kim Harrison's The Good, the Bad, and the Undead after LKH. I have other stuff sitting on my bookshelf to read, it just depends on my mood as to what will be after that.

Sprook - I'm three-quarters through The Kite Runner now, and like Natasha said it's a hard read but fantastically well-written and very rewarding. I hope the movie does it justice.

Pictures From a Revolution by Mark Harris - the best book about movies sine "Easy Riders Raging Bulls".

Just finished Kelley Armstrong's latest one. Personal Demon I think (the one with Hope), the book is in the other room where others lay sleeping . I really like how Kelley plays in the universe (Otherworld) she has created with the characters criss-crossing. Not a series per se, but they do interweave.

On a totally narcissic (egad, no caffeine sorry for sp...that looks wrong) note, Kelley's world & way of writing is most likely how I'm going to end up (currently have 11 books in my world) though I'm more likely going to end up in the YA world .

Laurell's early Anita are plot driven then they morph to character driven. Am number bazillion in the library waiting list for Blood Noir (her latest). Am curios to see if she is reverting a bit to plot as I found The Harlequin lessening a little in number of sex scenes (though not the depth of details etc).

Have Kim Harrison's latest by the bed....have to work through This Charming Life (Marian Keyes) & Back Spin (Harlan Coben) first.
