Yeah - we both LOVE the fall so there was never any doubt about the time of year! We're getting married at the beach and October will be still nice out but not stiffling hot!
WOW - that's a long distance to have to plan from - are you using a coordintor?

Ffiatlux19 posts in this thread

Nora - Otts *can* get into the thread, but he won't. 1) He avoids shipper forums, and 2) He knows I'm DYING for girly chat. The only real big "secret" would be gown talk, and he said even if he stumbles on it, he won't look at links.
TV - sounds soooo nice! No, no coordinator right now. A good chunk of my family live in the area where we're getting married and, all things considered, it's gonna be a low-key affair. Might need someone to play referee on the day of, but I'm so not there yet.
Are you getting married AT the beach or ON the beach?

ON the beach!! We both LOVE the beach and decided that was our DREAM wedding idea! Plus unbelievable it's cheaper to travel four hour to the beach and get married than to get married in Atlanta!
Yeah - the main reason I got a coordinator is that I can go down there all the time and handle details. But you have family to do that for you! :)

It's the golden rule of weddings - all HELL breaks loose at some point. Which degree of Hell depends on the family (for mine it was the 9th circle LMAO :o ).
I've told my other half that IF (see the capitals LOL) we ever married I like the idea of February 29.....oh, and a full moon....oh and on a beach......at midnight.....
The bugger went & worked out apparently we could do EXACTLY that in the year 2056  :?
Hell, maybe we should fly to Vegas.......................
Even though I may be adverse to ME getting married again (as much due to family trauma as anything else) I can live through TV & Fiat .

I remember Hubby and I, in the midst of hell week (that would be the one directly before the wedding when there are all those damn last minute plans and stupid little details to be worked out... and all just as the ENTIRE family is arriving blah blah blah), wondering why the hell we hadn't eloped in Elvis' Chapel 'o Love in Reno. Of course, in the end we are glad that we didn't, although we have several things that we would go back and change (like the officiant going on for 45 minutes about when and how she met me and my mother). Oy.

I have a sneaking suspicion it will involve one of my sisters.
Otts and I sat down last night to look over the packages offered by a couple of places we are considering (trying to narrow options down to 3-4). Dear JOSS, why do you have to pay so much for good food??? And interestingly enough, Otts almost has more expensive tastes than I do.

I'm late for the planning party here but may I suggest that you have a dog as a ring bearer? I think Nora would look so cute walking down the aisle on all fours, wagging her tail :P You can hand out 'pooper scoopers' to everyone as they enter the church :P We can decorate them with ribbons and lilacs :P There's a case of Vaseline in this for you if you take my suggestion ;)

SS - gonna be an Contra Costa County wedding at the church I more or less grew up in. Venues for the reception are a different matter. Gonna be in town at the end of July to deal with all that. Research now, narrow down to 3 or 4 places now, and then visit/evaluate/sign contracts! I'm very open to suggestions - drop me an IM if anything good comes to mine!
(One of my sisters got married in that rose garden... don't remember the month, tho.)
Myth - late July 2009 is the date. We're hoping for the July 25, but I refuse to make that official until I have the locations signed. Then we're gonna have to play a bit loose with etiquette rules: I think we're gonna email people the date so they can start planning NOW and then send "Save the Date" cards in January.

Do you have a designer and model number? Do you know what size you need to order it in? Try RK Bridal. I'm told they are excellent and can sometimes ship very quickly. http://www.rkbridal.com
Or maybe this site: http://www.houseofbrides.com/home.php?cat=1134 The dresses in this section are supposed to ship in 4-6 weeks.

If you weren't wigged I'd be concerned. The Dress is a major part of the whole getting married thing. Don't know why, since it's not really a part of the marriage, but it's one of those things you want to look really good in... even if you are only going to wear it once. When I was trying on dresses I kept looking in the mirror thinking, "will this one make his tongue roll out of his mouth?" Buying my dress was like that friends episode. I was outlet shopping with a good friend and we found The Dress but so did another lady in the dressing room and my friend literally ripped the damn thing out of her hands. That's what friend are for.
So wig on Miss Fiat!

I'm inviting my Mom, one of my sisters, one of my nieces, and two friends to come with me. (Probably too many people, but I highly doubt everyone will be able to make it.) Back from holidays and boy, did we get a lot done! We now have a reception location booked and the church pencilled in... which means we have a DATE!!!!
I also tried on wedding dresses for the first time. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Of course the two that looked the best on me were both about $300 over my budget. I'm gonna keep looking up here in Canada, but if I can't find anything better, I'm going to have to adjust the budget to cover the cost. I was already toying with making my own jewelry, maybe I could make my headpiece, too.

My sister and I both made our own head pieces. I got lucky in that my dress was ruined by this wacky train made of veil material, so I used that. Bought a headband, covered it in satin (this was pre-satin headbands, obviously), attached some bead sand rhinestones and voila! My sister wanted little pearls sewn onto hear veil... which I wound up doing for 3 hours on the morning on the wedding. It saved her about $100, but it was painful for moi.
Anyway, congrats on all the new developments!

NORA WROTE:Did you look on that site? Anything strike you at all?
Only about 1/3 of them on the site! LOL Actually, the prices really surprised me - some of the ones they tossed on me at the bridal shop were over $200 EACH. I might start haunting the site and watch for sales.
Sups - yay for DIY, although last minute isn't very fun. I'm a beginning-to-intermediate beader, so if I started by January, I could probably create my own crystal thingy for my hair... the biggest challenge is finding a pattern! Otherwise, I had better start playing now and figure out what looks good and what doesn't.
Okay, Otts won't look at the thread, but I'm gonna put a big ol' SPOILER notice and picts of two current favs in the dress department:

Another dress update!
Went and tried on dresses this past weekend. It was completely unplanned: I was wandering around downtown and decided to see if I could find this mother-daughter salon I had read about and see if it was worth making an appointment. Found it and they had just finished a rush of brides and it was EMPTY. Before I knew it, I was being tossed into gowns. Found two there that I really liked. I can't find a picture of the first one, but I did find this one:
Both were lovely on me and sooooooooooooooooo much more in my price range. I would have liked a bit more embellishment on the trains of both, but I think a seamstress could probably help with that.
So the dilemma: do I just get some gal pals to go back with me and choose from there, or do I go out to ONE MORE place? (There's a huge bridal mall about half an hour from me that everyone around here swears I should check out.)

Much like buying a house or a car, it is never a bad idea to go to that last place because if you don't you will always have a little buyer's remorse about not having gone.
Gosh I hope that made sense.
On the other hand, that dress on the web site is absolutely gorgeous. And I see lots and lots of wedding dresses at my resort. That one is embellished but simple. That's always a good thing. Seen many a dress that has stolen the show from the bride, which is an odd odd thing.
Ffiatlux19 posts in this thread

That completely made sense, thank you! Part of me feels like it's insane to go 20 million places when I have already seen things I love... but the other part of me thinks that I'm only going to do this ONCE and I want to enjoy it. But when you put it like that, it reminds me that at the bottom of things, this *is* a large purchase and it would be more like me (and smarter, IMO) to make sure I do all my research before putting my money down.
You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me!

Exactly. What if this last place has the "same dress" for a bit less money. I love fantasy and romance as much as the next gal, but there's something to be said for a bit of practicality and moderation, especially when weddings involve so many purchases.
But in the end, go with the dress that makes you feel you at your most beautiful.

(Safe post, nothing truly spoilerish in here.)
So, I went to the "huge bridal mall" on Saturday morning with my soon-to-be mother in law and sister in law. (Great women, both of them.) hehehe, story time.
This place is a 45 minute drive from where we all live, but this region is more the kind where you have a big city and suburbs that are separated by farmland, so that didn't concern me. Pulled off the interstate (uh, wait, we don't have states... the interprovincial highway) onto a country road. No big, esp. since I had directions and sister-in-law knew where we were going. Thank God she did, cuz I would have driven right past it - it was on a "country corner" and looked like an cross between a large single story house and a short barn. I freely admit it, at this point I filed the trip into the "well, this will be fun and I'll just get serious again next week" category, even though this place is big enough that it takes out ads in bridal magazines and EVERYONE around here knows about it.
The place opens and it turns out our consultant was running late, but we were told that we could start looking around, not a problem. My jaw dropped - I don't know how they did it, but they crammed HUNDREDS of dresses into this place - bridal gowns, bridesmaids/formal dress, "mother of the bride" dresses (which were hideous), flower girl / First Communion dresses, etc, etc. etc. Our consultant arrived about ten minutes later and we jumped into it. I must have tried on a dozen dresses; some were bad enough that they didn't warrent me leaving the dressing room, some were nice, and 2 were real possibilities.
The consultant was FABULOUS. She zeroed in on what I was looking for, respected my price range (she even warned me when she was bringing something that almost hit the top point), and she remembered little things like me mentioning that my Mom's input was that she liked the back of the dress to be as interesting as the front. And we were allowed to take pictures, too! :o :D
Anyway, the last dress.... oh!!! I want to show the picts to my Mom first, but it's the dress! I'll post more spoiler-y detail later!
