Sorry babes, there was no rape and Buffy wasn't exactly a saint in the matter. The AR was not right at all but Buffy does not get a free pass.

Angel was a lapdog too IF and when he wasn't making decisions for Buffy. At least when Spike made his major mistake, he took action whereas Angel lived in sewers and eating rats for a century brooding. Angel was an ineffectual boob. Spike may have been a bad poet, but that is still better than a drunken, lazy, womanizing letch.

And an ATTEMPTED rape is just as bad as actually commiting one. At least Angel only really hurt Buffy emotionally, and he did it out of love. Spike's just cruel and vindictive and has no control.

Well sorry to rain on everyone's parade :P I've been reading up on the Buffy Season 8 comics (I haven't actually read them yet), but there is a rumor going on with a Buffy/ Willow relationship.

So maybe Buffy's true love was actually her best friend :P which I think those issues will be written by Drew Goddard.

Also, Buffy and Fray wil be mixing it up in a future issue.

Lone - Buffy has a 'rough and tumble' with another slayer. I don't plan on reading the comics until I like what I hear about them:P

Re our 'fun' shipper debate.....play me another tune you guys!!! Always the same argument and hanging on that one thing when you witnessed the journey, the amends and the forgiveness. It never ceases to surprise me how B/Aers hound on the AR and totally approve of statutory rape. If the soul issue is so important, may I point out that Spike was soulless and Angel was souled and at 240+ he knew better. If you think anything was romantic there then that is extremely hypocritical of you. Spike had to contend with an emotionally damaged and emotionally constipated Buffy. Angel was the major factor in damaging Buffy.

Enough said....give me pece before I succumb to the surgical knife!!!!!!

I really didn't see the B/A as statutory. With Buffy, for all they knew, she'd die on her next patrol. Her not being a normal 17 year old ('cause she was 17 and in some places that's the legal age) made a big difference on her life experiences.

And personally, I don't see how she could have forgiven Spike. It doesn't make sense to me. I don't find it believable at all.

And the soul issue, at least to me, isn't a big deal. Spike showed from the very beginning when he was turned that there wasn't a big difference between being souled and unsouled except now it was expected of him to kill. His character didn't really change much with the difference of a soul both when he was turned, through his 130 or so years, and then when he got his soul back. Angel's a different story, though. His character/demeanor changed completely when he was turned. His soul was a big contributing factor to who he was and his gaining and losing and gaining it proved that. He mourned for those he killed when he got his soul back, Spike just didn't really care. He only did what was expected of him.


And as for the comics, the scene with Buffy sleeping with another slayer was amusing. They showed the immediately after and people kept walking in on them. Very funny.

That and Spike was a big girly man....

B/Aers make me crazy....still:blink: See, B/Aers can come up with every excuse in the world to justify the SR to make it okay but it just doesn't wash. SR is SR. Legal consent exists for a reason. It is also gross and perverse for a 240 year old to have the hots for someone 16/17 and then act upon it.

Spike felt remorse but he wasn't a pounce like Angel. Angel was one depressed and brooding puppy. I would also say that Liam was the root of Angelus. Liam really was a nasty excuse for a man. VL, we saw Angel's brooding and 'sorry repentant face' ONLY after he got all hot and bothered about helping Buffy and then he actually starting doing some stuff to earn redemption, In those 100 plus years since he was cursed up until seeing Buffy, he pretty much sat on his ass and brooded....when he wasn't living in sewers and eating rats. Spike went from crazy repentant Spike to Warrior and Champion pretty damn fast out of necessity, so don't pick on him!!

If Buffy hadn't forgiven Spike, then I would have totally hated her at the end of BTVS. To me, she finally acknowledged that she needed to talk more and understand how she affected other people in her life.

Bottom line for me....Joss and the writers really didn't think through these storylines and all the repercussions. They should have made Buffy older for Angel and they should have chosen a different reason for Spike to head out for his soul. They used something fast and convenient to move the story forward and characters suffered because of it.

Angel did do some good, all be it somewhat reluctantly, prior to his seeing/meeting Buffy. There's nothing wrong with staying out of peoples ways and just existing. Angel wasn't causing any troubles with all his brooding and he only did the homelessness and living off rats after he drank from that human in the diner. He felt it would be safer if he just stayed away from humans. He didn't want to give into the temptation because he knew that it would haunt him, which it did.

And the thing with Spike, was it was out of necessity. We don't know that he would have become warrior boy if it wasn't necessary. He could have just as easily stayed loner boy like Angel did. Angel didn't have major crisis that he was involved with and had to help stop so don't pick on him because the circumstances were different.

And I agree with Nora, you're being a little hypocritical.

And as for your SR is SR and legal consent exists for a reason. That would hold up a bit better if laws were all the same for each state. Yes, in California, 18 is legal consent age, but I've grown up in Ohio where 16 is the legal age and so I don't really see Angel sleeping with Buffy at 17 as wrong.

OKay SR yes was wrong the AR was wrong both boys were bad. There is our given. Buffy forgave both I think so should we. End of story. Both boys needed the love of Buffy to redeem and help wash their sins away. or at least give them the seed to want to be a better man.

but let's remember one thing...The Demons of Spike and Angel were completely different. I love the fight in Destiny in Angel on s5. It brings all this who is better Angel or Spike to a head. They are both champions but one deserved the cup and fought harder because he wanted it. Wanted it is the key her to the Champion and redemption. Spike wanted his soul he fought for his soul Angel had his thrust upon him. Angelus was one terrible demon like Spike but Angelus never looked for redemption as a demon Spike did. It was more than the chip. Even Fury and other writers said Spike was an anomaly, he retained more human characteristics as a demon than others.

To me this speaks to the Demon and the man that Spike, William and Spillaim was. He was a better man than Liam and to me a better choice for an older more mature Buffy. Angel was her first young teen love that as we all know is different from the real kind of loves we need as an older more mature woman. okay and he has that cool leather coat and hair....
