Rev; so in other words if your (assuming you have one) favorite cosuin were to make a joking comment where he carefully doesn't use the word but makes it clear that's "waht goes in the blank" your reaction wouldn't be to take serious offense?

Darla:Well you're certainly like Drusilla described. (voiceover;imbecile)
Harmony; And you seem like you could keep her,Spike, and Angel from killing each other (vo;megabitch)
Both glare then giggle
D: Hey, did you come here for dinner too?
H:Actually I felt like dancing, this place usually hops but tonight it's deader than we are.

no, if someone's being an asshat it doesn't matter what words they use. I'm still upset that there are stupid people in the world, and that they think it's OK to say things like that. I want to go back and hit them with a bat, but by reclaiming it I've given myself a safe way to make fun of him, keep on walking, and I've got the laughter as a shield to make it hurt a little bit less.

Also, my favorite cousin is different from the construction worker, because I can tell him that I find what he did offensive, and to not do it again. The construction worker is more of a drive-by insult that I can't do that much to prevent.

Hmmm...I'm considering whether or not to...

A) Lock this thread.
B) Delete this thread.
C) Ban some folks.
D) All of the above, although if I do B, I won't have to do A.

Hmm...tough call.

I think I'll sit on it for a day.

This board really must worship the devil...it's okay to talk about HELL all day long but try and let someone come out with something CHRISTIAN based and then oh no.... we just can't have that. Now doesn't that sound like a MAJOR contradiction there?

Why did delete my signatures and avatar? I don't see you deleting anyone else's signature's about HELL?
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

I didn't delete your signatures and ava. Must have been Eric or maybe you. And I'm not faulting you on your beliefs, I'm faulting you on the WAY you chose to express them. Telling people they're going to burn in hell and to repent....everyone already has Jerry Fallwell for that. Telling folks what to do isn't really the best way to get your point across. Being compassionate and understanding (like Jesus Christ) is. Jesus never damned anyone, but you seem to be doing that. So your interpretation on what a Christian is is a bit askew.

Yeah, it was just, ya know, calm exchaanging of viewpoints, a little fun and then I'm banging my head on the window as we make a sudden right turn. Ow.

New topic, ummmm, ok...forgive me if this was already covered, I keep confusing my conversations between different boards. A friend of mine complained to me the other day that there is a big rift between gays and bisexuals. She feels that gays and lesbians only like bisexuals when they're dating people of the same gender..Thoughts, comments?

well... seeing as how my two best friends are bisexual, and I'm like, 98% gay, there's no problem for me.

I can see why, though. The only time it bothered me was when my first girlfriend ever (and one of the friends mentioned above) dumped me to go out with a guy. I got over it, but at the time it really pissed me off.

so, yeah... no problem here. I like people as people, not for who they're dating.

TheFirst - *major applause* wow. the parts about suffering, and how your religion speaks of it, and the whole suffering is not the way to salvation... I'm glad there are people like you in the world.

I concur. It sucks that it has to get locked, but I come to this thread for GLBT-friendlyness, intellectual conversation, fun, etc. Not to get lambasted about the Christian immorality of me (which makes no sense, because I'm Wiccan, hence the not believing in God or the Devil)
Also, concurring with the confusion of the person who started this thread completely reversing their position.

I would like to read the bible with Adam and Steve but even more I want to read the one with Anna and Eve Laughing

and since it's been a while

NAME: Danny
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Straight
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE COLOR: Crimson
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: HIPPIE
STATUS IN THE CLUB YOU'RE APPLYING FOR: Straggler at the rear, purveyor of all things indecent

Now I would rather not see this thread closed, I still believe that most of us can have an honest, open discussion about this without the previous unpleasantness happening again.

SW: you can't always use religion as a shield for everything. If Christianity is your faith then I respect that and your fervour is admirable but you're channeling your energies the wrong way. I'm glad you've found something to believe in, something we all look for, but there's no reason to hit us all over the head with it. Wisdom does not stop and start with the bible.

rambling already, eep.

Otts, Danny, Lone and Rev: I think you guys should maybe just let this drop.

Lets' see how can I put this?

I think your problem here is you are trying to argue rationally where rationale does not exist.

You ask how can someone start a openly pro-gay thread then later admonish it and it's contributor's - when the answer should be obvious.

Mr Pointy; that's exactly the point; as a traditionally and conventioanlly Western religious believer myself standard logic can only go so far in discussing the issue.

And, again speaking form plenty of observation, a person who goes thru a major spiritual experience can display tremendous changes in attitude within a very short time.

TheFirst: Problem with your statments about the C"atholic church revsing the Bible" is that we have plenty of fragments going back veyr far that we can be sure even from the most secular perspective thta the books of the New Testament were in essentially their present form before 200 CE at a time when the organized church wasn't in any position to forcibly revise much of anything.

OTTS; I honestly don't think SW was condmning a lot of the other things you mention, ro were you saying she was a hypocrite for condeming homosexuality but not the other things? But soem of your examples were a little far-fetched, like saying that the Scriptures require us to condemn Buffy for being a fighter. Women of those days had several distinct roles. Deborha in the Hebrew Scriputres was a a judge over Israel and a competent war leader. In the NT MAry Magdalene is plainly portrayed as an heiress and busiensswoman who provided a lot, perhaps the majority, of the financial support to Jesus's ministry. But you and I are both going a bit off-topic here I think.

Daddykat - I'm not saying SW's a hypocrite. I believe my post speaks for itself. I won't take it further.

Folks, this is not a religious discussion thread. We all had at least one opportunity to tell others where we stand. I now ask that we return on topic, and if we can't do that, we'll have to lock this thread.
