*Val skips into NB, singing in that annoying sing-song way* It's Twilight November. It's Twilight November. It's Twilight November.

Hmmm... Not that I'm excited or anything. ;)

Hey, guys. I'm sorry I've been away so much, but I'm just so frickin' annoying to be around right now, I didn't want to make you all hate me! My mind and body are not my own at the moment...it's like Invasion of the Twilight Bodysnatchers. My husband called the other day from his business trip in Argentina, told me he could only talk for a minute, and I spent the entire time telling him that Twilight movie tickets are now on sale. I remembered to tell him that, but forgot to tell him that some of our best friends announced they're pregnant for the second time. Oops!

I hope everyone is well. I miss you guys! How was everyone's Halloween? Mine was good. There is way too much candy in my house now. I wore my flapper Halloween costume to church last Sunday on a dare. Is anyone here shocked?

Val - color me shocked. Not! Wearing a flapper outfit on a dare. Did you make heads spin?

Nat - Wearing my flapper costume to church was interesting. I had two distinct groups coming up to me telling me they loved my outfit. One was women over the age of 60. The other was men in their 30s. For some reason, I don't think the two groups loved it for the same reasons.

Actually, the reason I wore it was this: at our church Halloween celebration on Saturday, a couple of the guys tried to talk me into wearing my costume on Sunday. One of them is a big flirt (with everybody, he's harmless) and he just wouldn't let the idea go. So, I take one look at him (he's wearing a cowboy outfit with one of those ridiculous oversize cowboy hats) and decide to tell him that I will if he will. I figure, what have I got to lose? His costume is more embarrassing than mine, afterall. So, we both wore our costumes to church...and his costume was definitely more embarrassing.

Hello there, TV, dia, Selz, Nora, Nat! I've missed you guys! It's good to see you around! How has everyone been?

I haven't gone to vote today, yet. But I will be going soon. I live in Ohio, so I'm in a battleground state. It's so nice actually having my vote count! All those years in Indiana, I might as well have been flushing my vote down the toilet for all the good it did.

Hey Dia!!! Nice to see you hanging around!
How have you been?

Hey Val!!!! Glad to know your vote counts - that must really feel good!

I voted last week with early voting - still had to wait a half an hour. Better than the three hours last presidential election. That sucked!

I'll just be happy when I don't have to hear about the election anymore!
SMILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TV - I agree with you! I'll be so glad when this frickin' election is over. As previously stated, I'm in a battleground state, which means I've been receiving annoying phone calls with recorded voice messages asking for my vote every day for weeks! The Republicans are the worst. They called me 3 times last Sunday alone! They're really pissing me off! Even if I were a Republican, I wouldn't vote for them at this point! :x

I sit on pins and needles. My husband did so much for our local Obama campaign; he spent a month and a half setting up the local office and canvassing and phone banking. I was "volunteer support" in that someone has to stay home with the kids. Been doing a lot of that today as a friend of mine is a poll watcher, making sure it all goes according to Hoyle. I just don't know that we can take it if the outcome is other than we'd like.

Polls close here in 42 minutes.

Virginia went blue. Ohio went blue. Iowa went blue. Hell, Florida went blue.

I shall now do my Snoopy dance!

Ooo! And now McCain is conceding. Oh, my Snoopy dance just isn't enough!

Of course us Ohioans went blue!

And on that note, I should be working on my 5-7 page paper due Friday that I don't even have a clue what my thesis for it will be. I'm thinking the best way to get it done is to skip class today. Yes? No? Yes? Yes.

Lone - I am having a terrific day today. I woke up and realized that on January 20th, we will finally have competency in the white house. Haven't felt this way in years. But this, I guess, would be an even better feeling, because of the circumstances. We all made this happen. Anyone who talked to others, talked to family and friends....tried as best we could to convert people...this win feels monumental and it feels like WE won. It was a group effort.

I'll never forget last night. I imagine when all is said and done, it'll be one of the most memorable nights of my life...and probably for a lot of people too.

OH. MY. GOD. I was trying not to be too overly Obama enthusiastic, because I didn't want to offend anyone here. And IRL everyone around me is a Republican, so I'm constantly having to bite my tongue. I don't want my friends and family to think I'm rubbing it in. My husband is the only Democrat I'm really close to. So I've been totally dying since last night, being so incredibly happy and excited and not having anyone to share it with. My husband will call later tonight and I'll get to celebrate with him briefly, but I didn't know how I was going to be able to wait that long! It's so great to see so many of my friends here feeling the same way I do!!! I could just kiss you all! How can I not be excited? I'm so happy that Ohio went blue. But I can't even express how I feel about Indiana going blue!!!! I lived in that state my entire life, feeling like a 2nd class citizen almost...a Democrat in a solidly Republican state. As I said, all those years I felt like my presidential vote might as well have been flused down the toilet. I'm almost certain that Indiana hasn't gone blue since Johnson in 1964!!! That will be the most special feeling that I will remember from this election. I just wish I could still be in Indiana to experience it. WOOO HOOO! OBAMA IN '08!!!!

Val - I know! Having been in California, which goes so heavily blue all the time, it felt that my vote was always sort of a done deal and didn't really amount to much in the scheme of things. But this election my vote helped turn Virginia blue, which it has never done in a Presidential election, and that is just fantastic. And in my little rural county, we went 42 percent for Obama, which is way up from the usual 35 for democratic candidates. It's a good feeling today.

The only thing dampening my mood is Prop 8's passage in California.

fang - I absolutely couldn't have said it better myself. :D

Nat - It does feel fantastic to know you made a difference, doesn't it? I was so pissed off at Ohio for giving W. the White House in the last election! And now my vote helped it go blue! I can totally relate to what your feeling. I'm just a little sad that we had to go through 8 years of W. totally fucking up the country to get to this point. Sorry about the language, but this is not something I get to voice much IRL. My closest friend right now is my next door neighbor, a red-hot Republican. She hasn't even called me today. And the sad thing is, I'm a Democrat, but I'm not so blinded by that that I can't at least try to see the other side. I thought (and still think) that W. is a waste of space. But if McCain had won, I could have at least have had some respect for him as a human being and hope for his leadership. I guess it just hurts me that those closest to me can't even let me be happy. I actually got into a fight with my mother about the election this morning. She couldn't even let me be happy without making snide comments (and I really was trying to be sensitive not to rub it in)!

Selz - I'm good, babes. H1 has been gone on a business trip for 10 days, and I miss him. He'll be back at the end of the week though. How's you?

Selz - I would love nothing better than to take your advice. Especially since I'm experiencing that female mid-thirties condition that makes H1's 2 weeks away extreme torture. However, when you have kids, hiding in closets really isn't an option. I'm going to have to wait until they're sound asleep Saturday night. *sigh*

Now, what's wrong with our dear Selz? Why are you so down?

G'Day to all my very happy Americans!!!! WOO HOO. You all voted & it counted! (Down here we have compulsory voting so I'm always amazed at the prior to last night's low turnouts). :D :D :D

I was getting phonecalls from my sister who is living in HARLEM NYC of all places - she said it was electrifying there yesterday (well she didn't get to bed until 5am NYC time  ).

It's like a lot of the planet has finally exhaled .

So, other than that little thing called the US election - how's things? Val I see you're slightly preoccupied with vampires (as you do). I'm in the last leg/month of employment - my contract ends at the end of November. For all I know I become a bum  I'm being brave & attempting to go for a job with a university being a tutor for international students (part of the gig is the ability to get on with people from multiple countries/cultures...does here count  :P  ). My other half thinks I'm capable & undershoot but I think I won't be able to LMAO.

Okay - going to get to the other threads I had to abandon :? Was sad had THREE computers on 64kbps dial-up. So Nov 1 was a very happy day LOL.

Glori - Obsessed by vampires? Me? I don't see where you could possibly get that idea. *Val snaps her fingers and immediately an Edwardbot appears on her right and a Jasperbot appears on her left.*

Seriously, I can't remember ever having such a positive international reaction to a U.S. election. It's like the entire world is excited...except those who are related to me or are my RL friends. It sounds like your sister had an unbelieveable experience. I saw the rally in Harlem on t.v., and it looked phenomonal. And best of luck on the job interview. If it's what you want, I have my fingers crossed for you.

Val - I understand the Republican thing. Most of them around here are being bitter, and I will grant them their bitterness and fear while they go through the stages of grieving the loss. Some of them, however, are down right nasty. The Republican candidate won our House Rep race, but you don't see me running around calling him all sorts of nasty names and saying he won the race through trickery and deceit. I disagree with the man on everything, but still will acknowledge that he was the more competent candidate in that race. He is also so charismatic that you want to have your picture taken with him (had the chance and didn't, thank you). It just seems that, much like McCain's final campaign strategy, they are a mean spirited bunch. If you can't make a cogent argument simply lie and degrade your opponent. Call him a Socialist or a terrorist buddy. Whatever it takes. Of course, here is the South I heard President-elect Obama called many worse names. The extent to which folks called him a n****** was appalling. And in public. In front of African-Americans. Just mind boggling.

And to Glori, Lone, Nora, Selz - HI! insert big wave here

Nat - You have got to be kidding me! It is ridiculous to me that in the year 2008 the color of one's skin is such a big deal. Now, believe me, I'm not naive. I know that race is still a huge issue in this country. But I, personally, don't think it should be. For that matter, I don't think that it should be a big deal if a presidential or vice-presidential candidate is a woman. This election proved two things to me. First, we are making strides forward...otherwise we wouldn't have had the historic tickets on both sides that we had, and we certainly wouldn't have elected the first African-American president. Second, there's still a whole lot of ignorant, intolerant people out there. It always amazes me how people turn fear into hate. Maybe I'm too damn idealistic, but to not be is to give in and I won't do that.

Nat - I told my daughter (who is 8) to remember this time and this election. I told her to remember that in 2008 the United States had its first really serious female candidate for the office of the presidency. And I told her, that with all my heart I truly believe that by the time she is my age (36), this country will elect a woman for president. I want to hold onto that hope for myself, and I wanted to give that hope to her. It's something I feel really strongly about. But I bet you already knew that about me.

VL - I only contributed angelic DNA. When the kids are all sweetness and light, that's my contribution. It doesn't seem to happen often. ;)

Nat - I really shouldn't complain. I knew what I was getting into. Husband had to change jobs within his company. He gave me the choice: he travels more or we move out of state. I'd rather have bamboo shoved under my fingernails than move again (I absolutely HATE moving). So I went with travel more. I just wasn't counting on the the kids turning into full-fledged demon spawn?

Val - the hubby here doesn't go on a long away trip until February, but then it's a 2-weeker. I hate those because we all miss him and the girls wind up being a little whiney. Skype with video capability helps, in that we can see eachothers' faces from time to time. But, invariably, we have that adjustment phase where he's gone, then we get into a groove without him, and when he returns there's the transition period again. And I knew what I was getting into before we got married. Was easier when we were kidless. But, of course, I wouldn't change it for the world. An absence really does make the heart and other things group fonder! But then, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Nat - H1 just got Skype and webcams a couple of days ago. Ok, it's probably a side-effect of my mid-thirties condition, but he said webcam and I got a huge *weg* on my face. Then he claims that the thought never entered his mind. So, in your opinion, am I just a complete and total perv? Or should I be offended? And can I just say how damn inconvenient it is that my mid-thirties condition appeared just about the time he took this new job with all the travel? ;)
