Spuffy did have some violent moments nut it sure beat watching the 'table lamp' chemistry of B/A. Snort!

And some people like their ships to be actual relationships, not just random sex in random places. You can't fault me for wanting substance. 8-)

VL - One of the reasons I liked Spuffy is because it was a growing relationship over several years between two super beings. It had it's good moments and bad but the good was getting so much better. It also involved a being that could love Buffy....both the man AND the demon. I have no respect for Angel because he couldn't control his demon. I laugh at the thought of people saying Spuffy was violent because Angelus would have gutted Buffy and run his hands through her entrails while boinking her. If the whole person/being can't love you then you are just settling and setting yourself up for heartache. Besides, B/A was fricking dumb and dull and a wee bit gross with the pedophile issues.

All B-A shippers seem to forget that point...that Angel without a soul is pure evil...no hint of loyalty, love or anything honoring...besides the fact that he would have had no real feelings for Buffy except hatred. Spike, on the otherhand...loved Buffy even without a soul...rose above the inner demon and had that hint of humanity in him all along...soul or not. Spike truly was different than ALL the rest of the vamps ever written about in Buffyverse. A true champion to be sure. Plus the chemistry and angst between them drove me wild...wow...totally waiting for them to connect because you just knew behind all those barbs that Buffy really did notice Spike and not in the "I hate you" kinda way. She admitted she was turned on by the dark side and we observed that taunting and teasing from the ep where Spike was chained in the bathtub...the opening conversation was where Buffy was telling Willow how she was drawn to bad boys basically. Then we see her taunting Spike sexually -as we know that Vampires sucking blood has some type of sexual meaning for them...and she taunts him, teasing him with her neck. Also at the end of that episode when the love spell is broken and Buffy is loudly proclaiming how much she hates Spike ...notice that he is tied up and placed the closest to her than anyone else is...hmmm. If she really dispised Spike she would have placed herself far far away from him and not be a couple feet away from him those last few moment of that episode. Interesting stuff. Of course we always knew Spike wanted the dance as well...that's why it was sooo lushious when it happened. OMG! :o Wow! :shock: :D 8-) Yummy goodness! There never was any desire building up between Buffy and Angel...not even close. Their relationship was like watching paint dry. Unbelieveably boring and no spark what so ever. Damn, the angst between Spike and Buffy is what got my hopes up every week to see if they'd progress any farther towards "the dance". Indeed..."Smashed" is an epic last 5 minues to watch as a spuffy fan. But boy "Something Blue" and that thanksgiving ep are both precursers...developing the little verbal dance between them. mmm. Angel and Buffy never had any moment that sparked desire or longing like that. The closest was when Angel was waiting for the sun to come up and Buffy stops him and it starts snowing...that was a heart tugger but it's the closest they come to having a connection. Even though Angel always felt...sorta captain cardboardish. Saying his lines without access to his heart. Where Spike always had his heart on his sleev whether he was angry or love struck...you didn't have to guess how he felt. I'm a sucker for those types. Gotta know where I stand. Thanks for the memory walk Myth...ahhhh...sweet dreams now! 8-)

Ramones - Sniffle....that brought back lovely memories. I especially liked the way you said that you loved 'the man and the monster'. It's just so true though....he was a 'whole being' as the man/monster and oh how he could love. A B/Aer could never say that about Angelus. I would assume that a lot of B/A fanfic has to be about anchoring Angel's soul so that he could love Buffy...or...how Angelus FINALLY loves Buffy. The latter, of course, would have to be total fanfic hoopla since there was NEVER anything canon about that EVER. Spike was the superior being both as avamp and as a human. A hell of lot more fun too!

As someone who sits, still, on the Spuffy Bangle fence, I have to say that everything said here has been quite accurate. Spike's the bigger vamp with a soul. Damn poets and their bleeding hearts... which is what I blame it on. And it is quite luscious. Now that I'm back in S5 (said goodbye to Riley last night - YAAY!) I remember how fabulous the Spike/Buffy relationship was. All full of passion and tension and love. But did Buffy really ever love Spike?

I think she loved Spike as much as she could love any of the Scoobies. A lot of what Xander said during Into the Woods was spot on. Buffy holds back. She never fully gives herself to anyone after Angel, and particularly not after she's brought back in S6.

At the end of the day, Buffy will always call Angel. Partly because they understand the limbo that each of them lives in (Angel being part demon and have to maintain control over that; Buffy being the Slayer and have to maintain control over that) and partly because theirs was first love. Powerful stuff. It's why Angel always showed up. Even when we couldn't get crossovers, Angel was nearby. ("We have a place.") Hell, even Willow had to call him once or twice.

Through all of this, however, both Spuffies and B/A-ers are wrong. Had Buffy been a few minutes earlier (stupid girl), Riley would not have gotten on that chopper, and he and Buffy could have made it work. Days on the beach, babies, old age. *sniff* The whole shebang!

And that is when Buffy truly lost the ability to love. When Riley got on the chopper. After that, Spike could have her body, her trust, and even part of her soul, but she locked herself up to the idea of being in love that day. I don't even know that she could fall back in love with Angel after that.

But I go on to long. And the argument really is about which Vamp is better for Buffy, regardless of Buffy's reaction to them.

So let the debate rage on!

Superspy - Nice.... but I do think that Buffy was finally 'defrosting' and coming out of her emotional constipation in CHOSEN. She managed to say 'I love you" which was amazing. When I think back to everything that Buffy went through, it is understandable that she was so 'closed' off emtionally but damn, JW really made her a walking wreck most of the time. I think he is continuing this in the comic books. Shame.

I don't think Joss and the writers did this on purpose but you can almost say that Angel was the prelude to Spike and Dru was the prelude to Buffy. Both Buffy and Spike needed those 'first' loves to find their way to each other....eventually. It really makes for a tremendous love story.
