The other movie thread isn't working for me so I am starting a new one. What movies have we seen recently? Step up and give your review.
28 WEEKS LATER - definitely a bloody gorefest but I was impressed because it was a good follow-up to 28 DAYS LATER. Very tense and worth a ticket but not for the squeamish.
DREAM GIRLS - I wasn't going to see this at the theater because all the hype made me urpy. Rented the dvd and I have to say...good movie and good performances.
Looking forward to PIRATES and I will probably see it next Tuesday after the crowds jam the theater this weekend.

Spiderman 3 was fine, I think the critics were to harsh on it. I was entertained.
I may be forced into seeing \"Bug\"....I don't mind since Ashley Judd reminds me of Raine:whistle: ....we'll see...

Hey thanks Myth, I was thinking about renting Dream Girls - I actually saw the original Supremes in concert down in San Francisco a \"few\" years back.

Saw Waitress and it was wonderful. Great movie for a girls night out. Felicity was really great! Nathan was good as well but KR was wonderful.

oh yeah and Spiderman was I agree Nora pretty darn good for a heavy CGI film. I am not a big fan of the series but I like Franco. I was as well entertained. I also saw Namesake a small independent and that was really darker and heavier than I would have liked but good none the less.
I think this week I will sneak out and go see Year of the dog. I cannot wait for the movie ONCE. It looks wonderful and the lead singer of the Frames is in it and I am a huge fan of the soundtrack.

Oh....I want to see WAITRESS!! It's not playing anywhere around me though:angry: :(
Ramones...we would have fun sneaking out to the movies together!!
Saw PIRATES 3. So happy I re-watched PIRATES 2 last week for a refresher course:laugh: P3 is looong and yes, the plot is convoluted and potentially confusing as hell, but I stayed awake and alert!!! What can I say....I love this series....I appreciate it. It was a SAGA of fun, great special effects with gross and fun characters. Nuff said.
Rented a litle film called LIES AND ALIBIS a/k/a THE ALIBI with Steve Coogan (love him) and you know what??? I love it!! Great actors and tricky plotting. It was a surprising joy for me.
I want to see BUG....I think.

THE GAME OF THEIR LIVES - sports movie about American 'soccer' players post WWII who compete in the World Series. Good sports film. Gerard Butler plays an American and does a lovely job handling the accent. Actually, I wouldn't care...he could mumble and jump on his head and I would still smile and drool.
HANNiBAL RISING - Ahhh, based on that sweet lovable character Hannibal Lector...the pre SILENCE OF THE LAMBS days....how and why Hannibal honed and toned his killing and eating ways. This film got scathing reviews but I still wanted to see it. Slasher gorefest movies don't bother me mainly because that is the whole purpose and they are so incredibly stupid. This film had a background and I thought it was well done. The French actor who plays Lector is quite riveting and RHYS IFANS whom I have only seen in his kooky roles does a great spin on being a vile villain. Gong Li is in it and she is just incredibly beautiful. Its a sad film with gore galore.
Forgot about THE DEAD GIRL - great cast and great acting but depressing as hell. Film shows slices of lives touched by a dead girl. Brittany Murphy plays the dead girl. an itt was good to see her sink her teeth into a small yet meaty role. Always thought this gal had talent. I had to edit again to add that Kerry Washington is in this film and...WOW! I am so impressed with her talent in this film!
Mondays are my day off, at least in theory. I end up running all over the place with family members:S I usually have to block out 2 hours to take my mother to a movie. God forbid we should see a film I WANT to see. Saw MR. BROOKS and I was pleasantly surprised. Predictable, at least for me, but I rather liked it. Kevin Costner did a decent job as psychopath and I LOVED John Hurt in the film. Okay for matinee costs otherwise wait for the dvd.

Summer movie rundown. yeah, I'm pretty late on these :P
Spidey 3 - It was ok. Not as good as two. It needed more Venom
Pirates 3 - Also, it was not as good the second, but it was very entertaining.
Paprika - Satoshi Kon is pure genius. story could have been a bit better, but the animation was outstanding
28 Weeks Later - definitely good. Almost as good as the first one. Now, will there be a 28 months later movie and then 28 years later and then 28 decades later :P

GHOST RIDER - Oh well
FF4 THE SILVER SURFER- Oh well.
I think Jessica Alba is beautiful and she seems like a down to earthperson despite the media attention but I keep waiting for her acting skills to show up. I like Ioan Gruffudd and Chris Evans, so I had my boys and my popcorn;) :P
Good line-up of movies coming out. I want to see the new John Cusack film as well as EVAN ALMIGHTY and THE TRANSFORMERS . And yeak, I confess to wanting to see the DIE HARD sequel.
Oh....I want to see KILL ME, BLACK SHEEP, and even the new rat as a chef movie. Too many movis....so little time;)

Post edited by: Myth, at: 2007/06/22 17:08

SHOOTER- LOVED it!! I like Mark Wahlberg and I like righteous revenge movies. Yep it's bloody and of course Mark survives impossible odds. DVD...rent it!!
A MIGHTY HEART - Angelina Jolie is superb. Sad, sad film but well done.
LIVE FREE OR DIE TRYING - Hey...it's a DIE HARD movie, so I am going to see it. Love John McClane and the impossible odds with all the mayhem and explosions. Added perk...Justin Long.

Saw Once: WOW loved it well I love the Frames and he is the lead singer and sings throughout the film so yes! love it. It was a sweet little love story done in a musical format with lpvely seet characters.
Saw The wind that shakes the Barley. WOW such a hard film to watch and swallow. Brilliant and amazing and since I am Irish it was a tough film. It left a kick in the stomach feeling. great movie but UGH!

TRANSFORMERS - It was fun and the special effects were great.
HARRY POTTER - Erm....was it just me or was it disjointed? Scebe, chop, scene, chop. I guess they had a lot of material to covnr and they did the best they could. I guess it was okaybut I wasn't thrilled.

Saw HAIRSPRAY and enjoyed it...but I wasn't wowed. I have to say that I found John Travolta's Edna verrrrry annoying.
Rented a movie that went straight to dvd......PERFECT CREATURE. It's a New Zealand film with a twist on the vampire legend. I actually enjoyed it a lot. The plot could hav been meatier and the character development better but I am one of those that appreciat a new and novel twist/spin on a myth.

Well....I rented HOT FUZZ and 300 to watch again and both are so worth it IMHO.
PATHFINDER - sstraight to dvd. I don't care about the reviews....I loved it. Bloody as hell with limbs and heads flying with all the sword play. All I can say....give me a sword!!!!!:P

Well what have I seen that is not at all lame....
Saw the simpsons flick HILARIOUS> I love Marge.
Harry Potter 5. I know geek!! but I loved it.
Got my copy of Shakespeare re-told. Oh that old bastard's plays never looked so good and his stories never get old! The taming of the shrew is wonderful and the Macbeth is very disturbing.
For you Consideration: Man not as funny as a Mighty Wind but still a hoot!
Ghost Rider Ehhhh best line was the chubby girl who was rescued by ghost Rider and she made the sound effects of his head on fire. I think Nick Cage is a wee bit long in the tooth for it. Loved Sam Elliot. He always looks like he is over 100+.
Persuasion 1995 version. I know SUCKER for the Austen.
well hopefully next week I will get more sleep and less insomnia for flicks.

BOURNE ULTIMATUM - Loved this movie series and #3 does not disappoint. Great non-stop action. There had better be a fourth!!!!
STARDUST - Rather 'cute'. Michelle Pheiffer chews up the screen and Robert DeNiro is a hoot. Just a nice movie that helps you escape for a few hours.
FRACTURE - I liked it. Good murder/legal drama. Love Ryan Gosling and he never disappoints with his acting.
VACancy - Okay. Better than I thought.
Saw previews for a new vampire movie...30 DAYS OF NIGHT. Looks like a good tense bloody one!!

Hey everyone,
I just got back from seeing Rob Zombie's Halloween. It is soooooo disappointed. Nothing scary about this movie but the quality of the movie. John Carpenter should sue Zombie for dumbing down his original. The movie was more comedy than horror. All I heard from the audience was laughter. The dialogue was terrible.
Definitely avoid this movie. I want my money and time back on this one.

yeah I went and saw Halloween too, I love horror movies so I had to.. but I just didn't get the point of remaking half a movie. tho I did giggle when I saw one of the girls was Danielle Harris who played the little girl \"Jamie\" in Halloween 3 or 4.. something like that, she still looks the same lol

Nora - First time seeing a Rob Zombie movie and it will probably be the last time seeing one unless he gets mentored by Scorsese or a director with caliber. ;)
I just got a horrifying image. Zombie redoing Goodfellas
Oz- The whole movie was a joke fest. :P

3:10 TO YUMA. Loved it. Granted there were some 'suspend logic' points here, especially with Christian Bale's leg 'condition' but it wasn't enough to stop me from being thoroughly mesmerized by the action and the acting. Russell Crowe and Christian Bale do not disappoint in the acting department at all. Shocker for me....I thought Crowe was waaaaay sexy in this role:ohmy: I haven't felt that way about him since THE QUICK AND THE DEAD. Ben Foster is incredible in his role....he chews up every scene that he is in. Added bonus is Alan Tudyk.
Oh....the movies that will be coming out:woohoo: :P Next for me....SHOOT EM UP.

Where's Mr. P??????
Saw SHOOT EM UP. Tongue-in-cheek over the top fun. Great use of carrots.
RESIDENT EVIL EXTINCTION. I don't care what anyone else thinks about it....I loved it. I love this franchise...don't know why but I do.
EASTERN PROMISES. Intense and mesmerizing with ECELLENT acting and cast. Viggo does an entire fight scene in the nude and it is so intense that I didn't even register the nudity. Guess I'll have to buy the dvd and play it over and over..... A good film but definitely not suitable for kids or for the squeamish.

I also have seen:
Death at a funeral. HILARIOUS! I love Frank Oz
otherwise nothing really has made me want to see a movie in the shows lately. I am excited about Elizabeth. Clive in a period costume is making me all a flutter.

Saw 2 movies in Florida. Hey....I needed the air conditioning!!!!!
THE KINGDOM - Good movie. but hard to watch. Scary because it is realistic about how things are in the Middle East. The last half hour keeps you on the edge of your seat. All actors are great.
My hubby likes comedies so we saw THE HEARTBREAK KID. My husband owes me BIG time after this piece of &^%$. I will admit to laughing to the point of tears with one scene but that was 3 minutes of the movie....the rest was a major waste of time and money.
I plan on seeing 30 DAYS OF NIGHT friday. Here's hoping that it is as good as I hope!!

Well....duh!!! That's why I love my vamp movies:) It's also one of the reasons why I haven't been to California for years.....no nourishment what with all the plastic, silicone and nip/tuck streching;)
I rent movies and then don't have time to watch them, but I made a point to catch up while cleaning out some closets....
TV SET - Indie film on how a writer's idea for a tv program gets to the tv schedule. Good grief....no integrity and a lot of stupid executives and lots of ass kissing.. Great cast of A list actors. Thumbs up.
SHREK THE THIRD - Cute. Puts a smile on your face. Some laugh out loud stuff. Loved the bit when the Gingerbread Man thought he was going to die and had his life pass before his eyes. Snort.....love the 'bionic leg bit'.
DAY WATCH - Third and final installment of Russian vampire, good/dark etc. Stylized and made in Russia. Incredibly confusing with interesting visual effects. I have to say I liked these.....because I am too confused not to:blink:
SAVING GRACE - British period piece on the life of William Wilberforce who spent a lifetime fighting for reform and he spearheaded the downfall of the slave trade in England. I love biographical costume dramas and this film is wonderful. The political manuverings are/were great. Good acting all around. I first saw Ioan Gruffudd in KING ARTHUR and swooned first and then applauded his acting (which was interesting since Clive Owen played Arthur) and then I saw him next as Mr?Dr Fantastic in the FANTASTIC FOUR movies and seriously wondered why I thought he was a good actor. I was pleased to see him in fine form again in this film playing the lead.
NEXT _ Nicholas Cage can see 2 minutes into his future. Not quite as bad as I thought it would be. Nuff said.

Saw NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Erm.......erm.... don't know what to say. There are two ways to look at this film: 1) bloody brilliant as an allegory with no ending or answers, or 2) as a violent story with interesting characters up to a certain and then you go...huh? I haven't decided as yet.

I saw ALIEN v PREDATOR. It could HAVE been good but sheesh!! I might see SWEENY TODD this week too Nora. It seems like it should be seen on the big screen. I really want to see ATONEMENT but I detest blubbering in a theater and this is supposed to be a full box of tissue weeper.
