Hey, whos seen any good movies latley? I saw Letters from iwo Jima last night and it may be one of if not the best war film I have ever seen. I usualy dont like war movies, but this film really got to me. It was fantastic to see war in such a different perspective. I love that stuff.

I watched a very touching British film over the weekend called 'Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont\" that made me cry, it was so touching and I just loved it. With Joan Plowright and Rupert Friend.

Also watched Idiocracy which I liked but I think it could've been better.

Yeah, Bond was awesome. It really knocked my socks off to be honest.

I saw Dreamgirls and - keeping in mind I'm a big musicals fan - i thought it was boring with no o good songs that all sounded the same. What the heck are tose yank critics on about?

I've seen Pan's Labrynith. It's very good, and you should check it out Nora. Just remember it's subtitled

CRANK - Okay, I'll be honest here...I lust after Jason Statham:woohoo: And I love his high adrenaline flicks but CRANK is a 'drug' movie and I tend to shun drug movies no matter how cleverly executed/disguised. Final vote..just okay for me.

Define \"Drug movie\" in this case, Myth
Myth18 posts in this thread
#14 · Jan 19, 2007
Mr. P - Normally I am out the door and to the theater the day a J.S. film opens and damn the reviews. I read some reviews on CRANK and many of them made mention of the two levels of this film, one being pure action where JS gets the Asian cocktail and needs adrenline 'boosters' to stay alive while the other level is a clever way to depict an addict's hectic 'ride' to get his fix and then his crash and burn.

I decided to wait for the dvd for this film. I am not a fan of addiction films (whatever addiction it may be) but, hey!, Jason Statham:woohoo: The film was okay....I went for 'both' rides but I didn't care for Statham's character.

Rented SAW III and fell asleep 15 minutes into the film. What can I say?

Rented TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE THE BEGINNING. Sheesh....same old, same old.

Rented EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH. Hey, I don't know why but I did...okay? It was better then I expected and that doesn't say much here. Thank goodness for Andy Dick.

Rented BOONDOCK SAINTS. I saw it back in 2000 and loved it, so I decided to rent it to see if I liked it as much now. Yep....still do. Just your typical quirky, bloody film with great characters.

Nora- Andy Dick was funny in the movie and goodness...the movie needed something that WAS funny!!. I like Dax Shepard and he was a 'bit' funny.

Good grief....I am craving popcorn...theater popcorn. I guess it's time to see a movie, it's just that pickings are lean out there. Everything that is out, I rather wait for the dvd rental:(

Does that mean you loved Gerard Butler too???? HMMMMM???? I am anxiously waiting for 300 to come out...Gerard Butler w/ a fake Greek nose AND Michael Fassbinder:woohoo: It's a thing:blush:  The movie looks ....different. But GB AND MF.....:woohoo:

DEAR FRANKIE is a lovely movie and I tend to watch when it is on too. I channel surf and when I see it...click. I've been watching a lot of mfilms lately that I have liked in the past. Yesterday I watched SWEPT AWAY and got depressed and cried again. Sigh.

Rented RUNNING WITH SCISSORS. I thought the trailers for this movie were cute and quirky. Some quirk but nothing cute at all. I didn't like this movie at all. It's actually a sad film of dysfunctional people and a young boy/man learning to survive. Based on the lead characters memoirs. Geez. It does have good acting. Annette Benning got a Golden Globe nomination for her role but I was more impressed with Jill Claybugh.

Rented BANDIDAS with Selma Hayek and Penelope Cruz. It was meant to be a fun project for these 2 actresses and best friend and that is just exactly what it is...fun. It's rentable. Added plus for me....Steve Zahn.

Post edited by: Myth, at: 2007/02/12 21:36

I've heard mixed reviews about Running with Scissors...people who read the book hated the movie and those who didnt, seemed to like it. I'll still rent it for the hell of it. The film looks like it was cast well.

I watched Borat...(don't ask how, just know I saw it at home) How the hell did this stupid ass movie make so much money? It's NOT THAT FUNNY!

I also watched The Last Kiss with Zach Braff....odd role for him, playing somewhat of a dick to his girlfriend Jacinda Barrett. I liked her, I always do. Overall, the movie left me feeling kind of icky. It's about relationships going bad, lots of cheating.

I have BORAT here at home (don't ask) but I haven't watched it yet. My sons LOVED it but my husband was a bit offended. He's Russian. He did laugh at some parts but mostly sat back and grumped. I may watch this weekend. I love Sasha Baron Cohen. I watched ALI G IN DA HOUSE way back when with my sons and nearly fell off the sofa laughing. I think the guy is brilliant. His fiancee stole every scene she was in in the WEDDING CRASHERS.

Borat was a worthless peice of garbage! It was not worth the 15 minutes i spent watching it! I want those 15 minutes back! I actually feel a little stupider after watching it.

It's quite a few years old but has anyone seen Disturbing Behaviour? The majority of my friends and family thought it was totally pathetic, but there's just something about it that is BRILLIANT!

Rented HALF NELSON. I wanted to see this in the theater but this film had very few screens, at least in my area, so I had to wait for the rental. As I have stated many times in the past, I don't care for drug/alcohol addiction films because I have seen too much of it in real life with my practice and with some family members (cousins). Now I am seeing alcoholism with some of my sons' friends and these are those sweet, smart kids that have grown up and are now in college and look forward to weekend booze binges. After saying all that, this is a GREAT movie...it is not 'in your face'. Yes, it is depressing BUT it 'sucks you in' with the way the movie is done. I consider Ryan Gosling as one of the best young actors around and he is mesmerizing in his role. You believe from the beginning that he is a good person, a good teacher but a disilliusioned idealist who can't shake his habit. The young actress, Ms Epps, who plays his student is wonderful too and you can only hope that she can be a catalyst to help start an upward spiraL. The critics are spot on with their reviews for this film IMHO. It is also a film that tends to haunt you well after seeing it.

Stills for 300 are up at ROTTEN TOMATOES. Some of the stills from the movie are placed next to the cartoon imges by Miller and...wow! This will be a very stylized movie. Hope it will be good.

GHOST RIDER reviews are mostly bad but many reviewer say it is campy cheesy fun. I like campy and cheesy so I may see it at the theater:P

Kid - don't recall that movie, but I'll check out imDb.

Post edited by: Myth, at: 2007/02/16 17:09

Today watched \"Running with Scissors\" which was ok and \"This Film has not yet been rated\" which just concludes that we live in a fascist fucking country! Talk about CONTROL! It's disgusting! It's ok for us to see non stop violence but some sex is \"disturbing?\" and its interesting to find out how much religion plays into how movies are rated. Members of the catholic church get to choose ratings....how interesting indeed....

Nora - I would think that the mega churches and 'born agains' have a great deal to say about movie ratings, especially with our present Prez.

Rented MARIE ANTOINETTE. Interesting and absolutely sumptuous sets and clothing. I rather liked it and the portrait that Sophia Coppola paints of this historical figure. I was never truly interested in Marie Antoinette until I saw a movie called THE NECKLACE. I meant to do some reading on her but never got around to it. I wonder how much research Coppola put into this movie. Need to check this out, because it certainly paints a different light on MA and her background and life.

Rented MAN OF THE YEAR with Robin Williams. I checked out the reviews after seeing the film and they were scathing. The reviewers basicly said that this was a failed comedy. I didn't see it as a comedy at all and I liked it. I do like a subdued Robin Williams in films. Give me a film that attacks the two party system, political contributions and corporate greed and corruption and I am on the bandwagon. Actually, an excellent cast of actors.

Rented BABEL. Hmmmmmmmmm. Somehwhat like CRASH but global connections. It was okay. It was absorbing in its own way but CRASH to me was one of those films that glaringly stood out for me as a 'perfect' film. The cast was good but it didn't draw me in like I had hoped. I'd recommend it but beware...this is a 'sad' film IMO, so be prepared. I know it's up for the Oscar but I am hoping for THE DEPARTED or LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE.

Watched Flushed Away and the Prestige. Both were fine. I liked Ian McKellen as The Toad in FA, heaing Gandalf say \"ok my darlings daddy wuvs you!\" cracked me up...

The Prestige was looooooooooooooong.

BLACK SNAKE MOAN - Okay but not as good as I had hoped. Good performances, even from Justin Timberlake:ohmy: The previews make it look more quirky then it really is.

300- 3 words....GO. SEE. IT. I read the background on the film and it really is amazing how all the acting was done on a sound stage and the rest is special effects. It is dark and grainy, but it is based on Miller's graphic novel so it has the dark quality of SIN CITY...but with color this time around. Hope that made sense. There's plenty violence and bloodshed but, hey, it's a 'war' movie. The acting is good and Gerard Butler really does look like a great king. An amazing historical event and battle strategy brought tolife! And here comes the 'girly comment'......the movie was so mesmerizing and tense that I forgot all about the abundance of gorgeous abs:P

Rented ROCKY BALBOA. I remember being very reluctant to see the first ROCKY movie...I mean...boxing? Loved the movie and I've seen the follow-ups, so it was just a given that I would get this flick. I enjoyed it and got all teary when the ROCKY theme started playing.

Rented HARSH TIME with Christian Bale (love him) but I only watched 15 minutes. Hated it. Not the kind of characters I like at all.

Off to rent CHILDREN OF MEN.

if anyone gets the chance to see Hot Fuzz, (Simon Pegg/Nick Frost) I recommend it.it's old news in the UK I guess and I cheated I already watched it, it's not actually playing in the US yet but when it does I'm seeing it on the big screen. It was funny and it stuck to the mystery storyline when some movies are so busy being funny the rest of the plot falls short.
it's just a good time.

Oh Myth how could you say that about Children of men.

It is meant to have the documentary feel.
I loved it and thought it left me with a shattered sense of confidence about our species.

I loved that flicker of hope at the end but the hopelessness of the film haunted me. Love the stark brutal scenes.

Ramones- I knew that about the movie before I rented it. Infact, I made sure I watched it when I knew I wouldn't be disturbed ( I live in Grand Central Station:S ). I watched and, for whatever reason, I didn't feel the impact that it was supposed to convey. I didn't care for it at all. I saw THE CONSTANT GARDENER at the theater and I wanted to rip off heads after I saw that.

Planning on renting THE GOOD SHEPARD and VOLVER today. Heading to Flrida next Tuesday to spend a week with 'Mommie dearest' and plan to ake her to see GRINDHOUSE....can't wait:P

Myth: see the CG did nothing for me. I think I just could not respond to Fiennes. See and since I am such a spaz psycho about Clive I will always get an emotional response to him and anything he does. Even like video surveillance of a quick shop could bring me to tears for him so I see how CoM might night float with you but for me I was haunted.

I saw Grindohouse today, and it was a fun movie to watch. First off, it starts off the trailer called Machete. The trailer is like Wahlberg's shootout movie, but Machete looks much better.

The first movie was Robert Rodriguez movie Planet Terro. IT was a good zombie movie, and it had a lot of gross out scenes. Id your squeamish best to close your eyes :P . Rose McGowan was good in this movie and her leg gun really was cool.

The second set of trailers were not that great, but Zombie's Werewolf women of the SS was the best of them.

The second movie was Quentin Tarantono's movie Death Proof. In the beginning it lagged a bit. Way too much dialogue, but once the action picked up it was good. The car chase was good.

Overall, it was a good movie, and watching two movies for the price of one, is a very good deal ;) :P . This movie definitely not for kids.
