I have to admit I am not so much with the loving it. I am not finished but it is taking me time to get through it. I will finish but I am 450+ pages into it and I feel it is just dragging and dragging.

Not too sure about what I feel about the way she developed the story. I loved the first 3 and this one...ehhhh not so much. Sorry but I am bummed I wanted her to write like the first 3 a good fast moving story not this.

Oh well I have to see it through. When I finish I will be back on. Anyone else feel like this? Having a hard time working through?

Oh and was it me? or did anyone want to slap Edward a bit and tell him to stop being so insipid? She wrote him so strong in the other novels and this one so far all "pain, whoa is me. I hurt the thing I love" ? Blah blah blah, I know but he is getting on my nerves. I hope it gets better but I have to trudge through to the end.
back later.

I agree with you entirely Ramones.

Personally, I think that Meyer has gotten herself so immersed in the deep, emotional commitment between the pair that she's losing sight of everything else. Having said that though, have you noticed how one-sided their relationship has been? Bella is so apathetic this time 'round. Which, if you as me is absurd. How can she write three books (all equally as successfull in conjuring up teenage emotions in even the most elderly of readers :D) with this epic romance between the pair (and barely little else) and then in the last book decide.. ok, so NOW it's time for the plot to thicken.

Also, did you notice how dang predictable all the twists have been? (trying not to be specific as i've finished and i'm not sure what part you're up to). I finished it in two nights- and still can't work out if this was due to interest or desperation for it to be over.

If you havn't finished, FINISH! I'm dying to compare opinions on the ending!

Opinion on ending: Adorable in a fanfic "let's make everybody happy" sort of way. A little too schmoopy for my liking but it still kind of worked. Nowhere near as good as Twilight or Eclipse. Still can't decide if it's better than New Moon or not, and that one bored me to tears. Wait, no, that was just Jacob. My bad.

Okay almost done.

VL LMAO!!!!

Floop: I will write tomorrow about my final thoughts but I swear this is taking work to get through.

I agree she got so caught up in the love story even I am getting sick of the smoochieness of the Bella Edward. And so far the twists all too predictable.

I love the angst in the 3 books this is fluff.

VL yes New Moon...I have to say was better than BD but I again wanted to slap Edward for his "self-sacrificing baloney drama" and Jacob.oh don't even get me started. well maybe that is why I hated b4 is that for almost over a 1/3 of the story they tell it from jacob's POV and I wanted to find a shock collar for the dog.

Okay spoilers ahead if you have not read the Breaking Dawn book BEWARE!!!!!!!

SPOILERS BELOW WATCH YOUR HEAD!!!!!

Can I just say I want to know what happened to the writer I read for the first 3 books. Book 4 was some of the most trudging reading I have ever head to sift through. Gone was the angst , gone was the draw from well developed layered characters, what appeared was an insipid Edward, A Saint Bella and a pedophile Jacob. The creepiest one was Rose. UGH this was not just tame vamps these were neutered vamps.
The ending with the big bad Vamp mafia was so lame I almost closed the book. They talked and reasoned their way out of it! “How lame is that?” (to quote Buffy ) No blood? Only one charcoal briquette of a tattle tale vamp? So anti-climactic it was almost laughable.
I have read better fan fiction than this tripe. I felt I had to read it to believe it. I mean where was the blood? Where was the angst? If Edward did another I am so awful and horrid speech I was going to hurl. And do not get me started on the Oh Edward is such a stud stuff Saint Bella said every 5 or more pages. PUKE!
I have never been so disappointed. I mean I sifted through Anne Rice's unedited Vampire saga and that was like a breeze compared to this. Her ode to motherhood was so saccarhine I wanted to scream. I mean, I am a Mom and I know how great it is at times but come on.... This was a brilliant story with great characters and she white washed all the goodness and brilliance out of it so we were left with a bad, a really bad after school special version of her first 3 books. It makes me so sad. I expected so much more.

I gave my mom Twilight roughly a week to a week and a half ago. She read it in two days. Gave her New Moon and Eclipse right after that, she was done in about 5 days with both. Gave my mom Breaking Dawn on Sunday morning, she finished it on Monday night. She adored the entire series. She has made me proud. She already wants to re-read them, but I'm making her read The Host first. :ugeek:

Ramones - You're reaction is not uncommon. Over at Twilight Moms there have been quite a few unhappy fans. Many of them say they're just going to keep reading the first three books and ignore Breaking Dawn in the future.

As for me, I really liked the book the first time through. There were times I wasn't sure about certain plot points, but I kept reading and Stephenie explained everything to my satisfaction. The second time through, I really loved it. And can I just say... SPOILER - DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW... When Bella and Edward were saying goodbye to a certain girl and her bodyguard, I had teardrops falling on the page at an alarming rate. END SPOILER.

Vampire Lady - The new date for the Twilight movie is November 21st. Three weeks sooner than it's original release date of December 12th. And because it's sliding into Harry Potter's old spot, it's going to be opening on a lot more screens! More screens means (hopefully) bigger opening which means (again hopefully) producers will decide it's a good idea to put the rest of the books on the big screen!

Hey Val; I got to say I am with the I will read the 1-3 over and over crowd but ignore 4. I belong to Twilight Moms as well but stopped going because I got busy.

SPOILERS BELOW WATCH YOUR STEP!!!!!!

I mean I understand it is her story. I accept that it is her tale to tell but I just was not so drawn into it and the ode to Mommyhood was, I don't know, maybe just not what I needed at that time. Sad really I really wanted to love the book but not so much.

I bet part of my issues with the 4th book was that so much of it was from Jacob's perspective and he to me was just not my favorite character and then the whole imprinting thing. Ewwwwww. I saw it coming and thought Oh please god don't go there and then like a horror flick, yep, she went there. Ewwwwwww. It just sort of creeped me out.

Then the whole Super baby stuff ... I just didn't buy into the story enough to drawn me in.

I am still excited however about the film. Twilight is still my favorite.

Hey everyone,

I've been reading this thread with a lot of interest. I've only read the 1st book & am waiting (patiently) for my library copies of 2, 3 & 4 to come my way.

As a becoming-serious-about-writing-person, I've been curious as hell about what people think of the 4th book. I've been wary of reading any of it & only after many cases of "You need to at least have a look at it" type conversations both in RL & cyber-ly I've done it. For me the 1st book is Jane Austen Vamps (given I collected this the same time as Nightwatch you can see how).

I've discussed Meyers style with quite a few (well) published authors & those in the industry & we all say the same thing. Can't put the finger on it but it's hard to put down. I'm fearing no. 4, especially with your reaction Ramones, is going to be a job of work. Even the 1st one I was getting tapper-tapper-tapper (Simpsons ref) with my fingers by the end. I could see the writing cogs at work & was getting annoyed (new downside of writing so darn much).

SPOILER ahead (even if I haven't read the newbie *lol*) Ramones, the lack of blood etc etc really rams home the background that Meyer herself has from what I've read of the (overexposure) media interviews with her. I think if she was going to stick to her own principles etc there was going to have to be a backdown to a degree from what I've heard/read on the horror/gore/blood etc. Obviously, this is coming from someone who has yet to read & I may well retract what I've just said    END SPOILER TALK

For those of you who were really hanging on the wait, sorry to hear it's not all it's cracked up to be & for those it fulfilled YAY 8-) .

Glori - From a writer's perspective I can see issues with the Twilight Saga. I've read "great" literature. I've read artistic prose. Would I rank Twilight with the so called classics? No. Of course not. But I enjoy the story. It sucks me in and leaves me wanting to know what happens next. It's romantic popcorn fiction. It's the snack food of the literary world. For me, it's fun to lose myself in the Twilight universe for awhile and just enjoy a good romantic story without having to think too much.

Ramones - Believe me, I'm not saying you shouldn't feel the way you do about Breaking Dawn. I had my doubts several times while reading it too. SPOILERS AHEAD... The pregnancy. The imprinting. Renesmee? (I agree, worst name ever!) But on reading it the second time through I picked up so much that I missed the first time. All the little Bella and Edward moments that I missed because I was reading too fast so I could find out what happened. The humor of Jacob. (I love his feud with Rose and all of his chapter titles). I knew it was going to happen, so the pregnancy and the imprinting didn't bother me. I even got to the point when I didn't cringe every time I read Renesmee's name. END SPOILER

Again, I can understand what you and many others are saying about your reactions to the book. I can't say that I didn't have some of the same reactions myself the first time. I'm just saying that, for me, I was ok with the book on finishing it the first time through. And that, for me, reading it the second time allowed me to see and appreciate things that I didn't the first time. I really enjoyed it overall. Is it my favorite of the series? No. I think Eclipse will always be my favorite.

Ok, I am truly sad. I went to Borders yesterday because I knew they had the exclusive Twilight (the movie) 2009 calendars. What I didn't know was that they had Twilight (the movie) t-shirts!!!!! I actually jumped up and down and squealed in the middle of Borders. Does my Twilight addiction know no shame?

So now I HAVE to go see the movie at least twice (once wearing my Twilight Moms shirt and once wearing my Twilight movie shirt). Gee, I really hope the movie doesn't end up sucking! *fingers crossed*

Mine occurs after Edward admits he's heard Bella say his name in her sleep.

Edward: "Don't be self-conscious...If I could dream at all, it would be about you. And I'm not ashamed of it."

This is a sad time for all Twilight fans. I don't know if everyone has heard. Someone that Stephenie trusted with a partial draft of Midnight Sun leaked it on the internet. Hurt and betrayed, Stephenie released the unfinished Midnight Sun (Twilight from Edward's POV) draft on stepheniemeyer.com and stated that she is putting Midnight Sun on hold indefinitely (maybe permanently). I really wanted NOT to read that draft...the first 12 chapters of Midnight Sun. I wanted to wait for it to be published, but the thought that it might never be drove me to read it. It is fantastic! The thought that we might never get it completed and in published form as Stephenie intended is torture for me. I want my copy of Midnight Sun sitting on my bookshelf right next to my copy of Twilight where Stephenie intended it to be. I truly hope that, after she has a cooling off period to deal with some of the hurt, Stephenie will complete Midnight Sun and publish it. I know I will be one of the first in line when (if? :( ) it does come out.

And I haven't read any of the Twilight series... yet. It's sitting on my to-be-read shelf, gathering dust until I have any time to sit and read. Bella is protesting that she's too young to accept Edward's marriage proposal...

Bella: Oh, c'mon...I'm only eighteen."
Edward: "Well, I'm nearly a hundred and ten. It's time I settled down."

Cracks me up every time!

IT IS LONG & MAY MAKE SOME UNHAPPY  Oh yeah & SPOILERS :?

Hey Everyone. Up front on this topic I profusely apologise for my angle & any intent of discomfort I cause for those of you who love this series. I appreciate what it is you like about the series & the players involved but here come my humble pov. :geek:

First up I have read ALL four books. I got through them all…just. 8-) :? 8-)

Ramones your point of
The ending with the big bad Vamp mafia was so lame I almost closed the book. They talked and reasoned their way out of it! “How lame is that?” (to quote Buffy ) No blood? Only one charcoal briquette of a tattle tale vamp? So anti-climactic it was almost laughable.I have read better fan fiction than this tripe. I felt I had to read it to believe it. I mean where was the blood? Where was the angst?

Basically this is my position for the entire series. Sorry Val. I tried. I really, really tried to get into this series. There were some interesting takes & good points but overall I found it really hard going. :o

I had been warned by plenty of writer-ly friends that as the series goes on it does become harder to wade through & for me it was wading – it felt like that about page 200ish of the 1st one.

My take is Jane Austen does vampires. I think Meyer has done a good job in the very tight, cloistered parameters set by her own life beliefs. I know I was so over Bella cooking for Charlie after about the 20th example given.

I can see the appeal in Edward but by the 3rd book I wanted him to get a spine at some point – which never came about.

I was also annoyed at the fact it was YA pitched with ongoing fade out to black/sleep/something else whenever something sexual of nature came up – even after they had done the whole marriage thang. The description of black lingerie had me quoting to my other half in disbelief (for the context of the whole scene of characters etc).

Bottom line there was no bite in it. Ever. :o Not in the passion (it was kept at swooning levels until after she was a vampire when apparently that is when one can feel passion in ‘naughty’ ways), not in the violence nor in the release of tension. Ramones I’m right there with you on the ending of Breaking Dawn. For all that build up to have them TALK IT OUT?? These creatures are 100+ years old – talking???

My favourite characters which helped me through the tomes were Jacob & Alice. Interesting I thought it was secondary characters that kept my attention. I found the take on glistening marble for skin something new & reasoning why no sunshine is preferable. She did bring some interesting twists to vamp mythos.

I am still undecided how the pulling of books into Bella or Jacob as unsettling. I can see how & why but it was too uneven & at points I wondered why not stick with one. The seeing of Bella’s pregnancy first through the distance of Jacob’s pov took away the power of it for me given how much it was meant to be Bella’s story….wasn’t it? Then to have Bella felt like the “Previously on…” type teaser. By the end for me imho it felt like she jumped to Jacob when it was too uncomfortable to be in Bella's shoes. :?

I felt Jacob was more & more used as a tool for ‘something to do’ & get something happening as the vamps didn’t seem allowed to. The ending drop-in hinted more of deux ex machina for my liking (even if we did see their return coming from the 1st encounter). The plot ‘twists’ weren’t – they were more ways of getting a plot pulled along – rather than allowing it to flow more – either a romance for romance sake or an action ride – didn’t pull off either for me by the end. :(

I’m still planning on reading The Host – to see if she got too caught up in the machinations & had to get herself out or if it is just her.

Feel free to comment on my comments (or not *LOL*). I’d love to see other’s opinions on this series. I will be curious to see how the movie goes.

I’m done. Questions? Comments? :?

Val, I finished last night. I honestly HATED the last book. I can't feel anything positive out of it, I felt it was illogical, cheesy and poorly thought out. Overall, it pissed me off.

The trailers are bugging me too. Maybe because it's all fresh in my mind but that chick just is NOT Bella to me. It looks like they mainly focused on the James stalking Bella chapter. I don't know, I'm not going to hold my breath on this being great.

Glori - You know, I just love you to bits...even if Stephenie Meyer is not your goddess. ;)

Nora - You're not alone. It seems that there were three reactions to Breaking Dawn...loved it, hated it, or loved it - with reservations. I'll admit, the first time I read it, I was in the loved it but with reservations category. I've since read it two more times and I've moved into the simply loved it category. I'm not suggesting that multiple readings might do the same for you, I'm just saying that it worked for me. So, what did you think of the first three.

Myth - You saw the trailer at the theater?!!? What did you go to see? I would kill to see it on the big screen. I've watched it about 20 times on various and sundry websites.

Val - I saw QUARANTINE. If you go see a scifi or blood dripping film they tend to show all the upcoming scifi/blood dripping movies. The film quality of the trailer was good and the scenes much better than I have seen prior to this. When I first saw a few bits and pieces I was totally bummed with the choices for the leads but they look better on the big screen. I haven't read the books and I don't want to...either the movie ruins the books for me or the books ruin the movie for me. With something like TWILIGHT, I want to experience the movie fresh and I was not enthused about teenage vamp hormones. My bad maybe.

Myth - The sad thing is, no matter how much I'd love to see the trailer on the big screen, I won't. With an eight-year-old and a five-year-old, I almost never make it to the movies at all, and when I do, it's usually something animated or aimed at kids. I don't think they'll be showing the Twilight trailer before Beverly Hills Chihuahua, do you? Of course, I'm avoiding seeing Beverly Hills Chihuahua at all, so it's kind of a moot point anyway. I'm saving all my near future movie going experiences for Twilight. I'm planning on seeing it at least three times. *Val clasps her hands and looks skyward* Twilight, please don't suck! PLEASE! Don't suck!

Nope, I definitely could not wait until January. I'm barely holding on til November!
