VL - Skip PUSH. I saw it today and almost fell asleep....and I wasn't tired. Le sigh....I love scifi films but this one disappoints. Wait for dvd or cable.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO - Oh dear, I am not a prud but I got to say that this film was rude, crude and tasteless. Wish I hadn't watched it. The only plus for me was seeing Jason Mewes in a role...I miss Jay.

THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES - Nice story and nice cast but very slow moving...almost too slow but I liked it. Very doubtful that I will ever watch it again.

Damn....still haven't seen SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE or THE WRESTLER.

Okay, I'm trying to catch up with some of the Oscar picks...before Oscar time.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE - It actually deserves all the hype it is getting. I was unprepared for this movie - it was so different than what I expected and I purposely didn't read anything about it beforehand. This is a very dramatic movie, sad even but beautifully done. Kudos to Danny Boyle the director. If you haven't seen it then get off your cllective butts and make a trip to the theater!

THE VISITOR - The wonderful Richard Jenkins is nominated for a 'best actor'. This is a good movie but heavy and sad dealing with a lonely widower and some illegal immigrants that enter his life. Just re-enforced my paranoia about security since 911....I WILL NOT mention any "Act". Shudder.

FROZEN RIVER is out on dvd. Melissa Leo is nominated but from what I've read, this is another gut wrenching film and I've had a run of 'gut wrenching' lately. I really really need a good comedy......maybe I'll see PAUL BLART MALL COP  Hey, it's still doing well at the box office......................

So, I was one of those awesomely cheesy people and went and saw FRIDAY THE 13TH on Friday the 13th. Just not one of the crowded evening showings. I went to the first one at 12:30 in the afternoon. There were only about 20 of us in the theater. I enjoyed it. Jared Padalecki did a good job. Your typical horror/slasher flick - every pair of boobs you see (and there were quite a few), the girl dies. But I still enjoyed myself. It made me jump a few times, it made me laugh a few times. Those are the things I look for in my horror movies.

Myth no $$$ to see films in theaters. I have even stopped buying shoes. 10K pay cut is killing us.

I have seen a few things on demand like the Flash of genius! it was really slow. I had a hard time liking the guy really I know Ford was the big bad and I thought he should win but I felt bad for his kids and his wife since they suffered so much because of him and the Ford company.

Went and saw Underworld: Rise of the Lycans today. It was good. Up to standard with the other two. I shall be getting it on DVD when it comes out.

Sometime in the next couple of weeks I'm probably gonna go see Fired Up. It looks cheesily funny.

Myth - LegoKing really enjoyed SLUMDOG too (he saw it with my Mum when he was visiting her in Sydney). I haven't got to it....yet - though I'm suspecting it's going to be a dvd viewing.

Have wondered about Secret Life of Bees - that is about to open here.

Saw GRAN TORINOlast night at the LegoKing's request (which proved he is not all gaming, zombie loving teen boy  ). It was much better than I was expecting - in the subtle, underplayed way of stressing the situation (though also a little close to home for me after the murder trial which was essentially gang ie different suburb/islander groups clashing). Oh & I got all teary at the end (me being teary is a BIG Deal - it rarely, ever, ever happens). LegoKing also liked it - and then asked a lot of questions about Clint Eastwood as director (& he now wants to see the Dirty Harry movies). The funniest thing was after he went to imdb (to prove I had my 50's starting date wrong) was "geeez he's been going awhile"

In the coming weeks I am being severely educated by the other half on WATCHMEN  I live with a total fanboy (so hopefully it's been done right & no frothing at the mouth will result  ). LegoKing in preparation (due to said other fanboy) is reading the graphic novel.

Haven't got to UNDERWORLD & I think I'm going to be missing it on the big screen. D'oh!

Glori- you should have your son start with the Clint Eastwood spaghetti western films. I catch tem once and a while on cable and I still marvel on the 'hotness' of a young Clint Eastwood. My daughter, who is a snob and only reads the 'relevant' books, actually bought the graphic novel for WATCHMEN because a friend told her that it was an amazing comment on society, philosophy etc and she enjoyed it :o Whoa...that scared me! I want to try and read it before the film comes out but I am losing a time battle here.

GRAN TURINO was filmed about 18 mile from where I live...scary area. George Clooney was in town this past week filming a new movie.

I haven't been to the movies for a while but I am going back down to Florida for R&R and warmth, so I will undoubtedly head to the theaters more than I would want to since it is my mother's FAVORITE thing in the world! I've rented some movies but nothing good enough to comment on. I cn't believe BODY OF LIES with Leo and Russell Crowe ended up on dvd so fast. I plan to rent that next.

WATCHMEN - I never did get a chance to read the graphic novel but I am pleased to say that my butt did not fall asleep anytime during the this 2 1/2 hour movie :) I thought it was pretty good. The ending just blew my mind....in a 'it figures' kind of way. I thought Haley as Rorschach was damn good and entertaining. I am not a fan of Malin Akerman but thought she was okay. I was a bit mesmerized by swinging blue thingies......

KNOWING - Yuck, yuck and more yuck. Throw in a little urp too.

Hey folks - thanks for the movie reviews!

Glori- you should have your son start with the Clint Eastwood spaghetti western films. I catch them once and a while on cable and I still marvel on the 'hotness' of a young Clint Eastwood.
Myth watches old reruns of "Rawhide" for Rowdy Yates Scenes.
Myth73 posts in this thread

Fogey - I fondly remember the theme song for Rawhide but I never saw the series in reruns.

TWILIGHT- Okay....better than I thought and I look forward to the next movie just to see where the characters go with the storyline but I would never pick up the books to read. I've always liked Kristin Stewart as an actress but RP has a way to go but in the meantime he can definitely get by with those eyes. I better get my arse outta here fast before Steph reads my comments

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN - Swedish but you can select the English dubbed on this dvd. This film got immensely good reviews. It is about 'tween' vampires. Scheesh....I watch teen vamps romping in TWILIGHT and then this one :? It was slow going and I guess I am glad I saw it but I definitely wouldn't heap oodles of praise here like the critics.

BOLT - I am a kid at heart and usually find these animated flicks so much more enjoyable than most movies. It was adorable and I now want a hamster like Rhino :D

THE PUNISHER - I like Tom Janes but his Punisher was a disaster and incredibly hokey. I liked this PUNISHER so much more with Ray Stevenson (ROME). It was hokey but not dripping with it. There was constant blood, guts and brains flying so not for the squeamish. I so like my mayhem while unwinding at night ;)

Myth - It's okay. I kind of thought both KS and RP were lacking a bit but the other vamps totally made up for it. KS just didn't play Bella emotionally enough and felt a little stiff to me. I was amused when Edward slipped into a british accent occassionally. Can't wait for New Moon, though. November!

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN - My mom lent me the dvd today, haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Will get back to you on my thoughts on it.

I saw MILK several weeks ago and actually dozed on and off .... and I was watching with several relatives!!Sorry, I found this movie boring. Sean Penn's acting was very good but please, Mickey Rourke definitely should have won for THE WRESTLER. Penn should have gotten an Oscar for MYSTIC RIVER....in fact ALL the actors should have gotten Oscars in that film.

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. Oh dear...hokey much?! So sad when they make a remake of a classic and make it so schlocky. A shame really because the message is such a good. At least the PTB behind this flick are more hopeful about the human race learning a lesson in time to help the earth. I remain more pessimistic about this

Rented NIXON/FROST because I felt I had to. Silly, right? I mean it was nominated for several Oscars. Well, all I can say is that it was....WOW. Kudos to the actors, especially Frank Langella. I honestly think he should have gotten the nod for Best Actor. It is such a well done movie!!! Check it out.

Heading out to see WOLVERINE tomorrow. The reviews aren't the best but I don't care. Have you seen all those muscles????? Gah ;)

WOLVERINE - I liked it. It was mindless fun. The reviews have not been good and I understand that the X-Men fans may be up in arms but hey, I am not weighed down with an abundance of X-Men knowledge so I enjoyed what I got. Got to say that I LOVED Gambit. I hope they do a movie on him :D

I saw it!! Yep...it is 'Nerdvana' and I am happy to be a nerd here. It is a fun ride and I enjoyed all the new actors. Of course, they had me at Simon Pegg as Scotty :D Zachary Quinto is great as the new Spock and I definitely liked Chris Pine as Kirk. Because of something that happens in the past/future or future/past  we can't rely on canon. Go see it and enjoy and then post you opinion.

Sheesh...a bunch of movie deadbeats here :(

Saw WOLVERINE last weekend and thought it was awesome.

Will be seeing STAR TREK on Sunday with my mom and the rest of my family for mother's day. I'm all excited! It looks awesome, and Myth, you just made me want to see it even more, which I didn't think possible.

Will be seeing TERMINATOR SALVATION when it comes out and also TRANSFORMERS 2 when it comes out. So many things already! PUBLIC ENEMY also looks interesting.

Steph - I love you girl!!! You like the same movies. I have to include G.I. JOE in your line-up. I will be seeing ANGELS AND DEMONS next weekend. I love summers with all the action movieS :D There is one dark comedy coming out about a bachelor party in Vegas that goes really really wrong. I hope it gets decent reviews because I want to take hubby. He only likes comedies and the comedies have been pretty worthless for several years now  I did like TROPIC THUNDER though.

I guess I only laugh with the gross and warped comedies like DIRTY LOVE, ALI G IN DA HOUSE AND DODGEBALL

Jedi - Now see Star TREK. This is an order!!!!!! Oh....I can definitely understand why Deadpool mouth was sealed shut  What a motor mouth beforeLOL.

STAR TREK was AMAZING!!!!! I'm a fan of the original, and this was soooo much better! A better Kirk, at least! Spock pissed me off through a good portion of it, but he was acting like an ass.

Not really interested in ANGELS AND DEMONS. I thought THE DaVINICI CODE was just okay.

I think the comedy you're thinking of is THE HANGOVER and stars the guy that played Davis in Tru Calling. That looks funny. I hope it gets good reviews 'cause I wanna go see it.

I finally saw a preview for GIJOE and my first thought was that it doesn't look like any GIJOE I remember. Could be interesting, though. I do, however want to go see NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2. Looks funny. I enjoyed the first one.

I knew you'd like ST :D Hey, Spock is supposed to piss us off!! Remember that he is 'by the books' Vulcan. I thought they did a nice job showing him getting better and better as the movie went along. Hey what about Uhura and Spock?.....   What a nice surprise. I don't know about you but I can wait for the next installment!

Candace, listen to Steph. I Loved STAR WARS and I loved STAR TREK. The movie is like a whole new world of Star Trek and you don't need an intro at all. Just go and appreciate something new. I am a scifi feak and always have been and I enjoy the 'new worlds' presented....if they are good. Go with friends. Make a night of it.

TERMINATOR SALVATION - A disappointment. Le sigh. However the good news here gals is that Sam Worthington who plays Marcus is beyond a nummy treat :D Guys....you get Moon Bloodgood and ,yes, she is a babe.

ANGELS AND DEMONS - Le sigh again. I did enjoy the Rome scenery though. This movie is just so contrived. It is also butt numbing due to the 2 1/2 hours running time. The popcorn was good though.

Rented
TAKEN. And why was this movie #1 for 2 or 3 weeks in the theater??????????????????? Yuck. Maybe it was a good message film for young stupid girls going off to Europe alone.

MALLCOP - Cute. Nothing more.

THE DEVIL'S TOMB - Yuck

OUTLANDER- I liked it!!! I actually liked it. Mindless escapism that was decent.

I will see DRAG ME TO HELL next. The reviews are phenonenal thus far. Sam Rami returns!!!

I liked Drag Me To Hell. I laughed through half of it and jumped a few times. It may not have been too horror-ific, but it was a great comedy!

Steph - I was disappointed with DMTH mainly because Rami was trying for the ARMY OF DARKNESS feel. I love that movie and I thought DMTH was a lame attempt. I wanted to slap the shitake out of the main female character as well. It's a thing.

HANGOVER - Yes, there are some laugh out loud moments and I did shed a tear or two laughing. Glad I saw it but you can wait for the DVD. Unfortunately some of the best scenes were shown in the movie trailer....I so wish they wouldn't do that!! I would have had a few more laughs :x

I know I am over a month late in reacting to STAR TREK, but I have to say that the idea of creating an entirely new time line to reset the TREK universe was truly inspired. One of my biggest criticisms of the writing in VOYAGER and ENTERPRISE was that they relied too much much on time travel and/or alternate time lines when they ran out of story lines. But now they have used that device so they can pretty much do what ever they want in future films (and not have to pay attention to Star Trek canon)- only this time with TWO Spocks (as long as we have Leonard Nimoy around). Aside from the Spock/Uhura relationship and a preference for using a little too many jump cuts, I loved this film. J.J. Abrams seems to have the touch these days.

BTW- Nimoy will have the role of genius William Bell on FRINGE next fall

RIBBIE!!!!!!! Squee! Good to see you. Happy to see that you still head over here to HMC :D I thought it was pretty clever resetting the time too but I must say that my eyes crossed with all the convoluted talk from older Spock

Steph- when you get the time, watch ARMY. I think I've seen it at least 30 times  How many times for you and TWILIGHT now???

I saw He's Just Not That Into You. Was cute. Not as good as I was hoping but had people I liked in it which made it okay.

Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince... kind of a disappointment. It still had its entertaining moments and I do recommend you go see it in the theater, just don't have too high of hopes for amazing. Honestly, it's probably one of my least favorite of the series. Felt more like exposition than anything else. Movies 7 and 7.5 better be a hell of a lot better! Still I did enjoy myself. I just don't understand why they couldn't squeeze a couple more characters in, 'cause it really wouldn't have added more than probably a grand total of 7 minutes or so. It's not that hard, really.

Movies seen so far this summer

Transformers 2 - Just what I expected. Lot of explosions, lot of noise, no storyline. What the hell making Skyfire an old robot.

Blood: The last Vampire: Nice little action flick. Much better than Transformers 2.

Harry Potter - It was entertaining, but it had a bit of a slow pace to it though. It just felt like like the movie was going well you know the story and you know what happens so we'll skip some scenes.

Hoping to see G.I. Joe and Inglorious Basterds in the following weeks.

I saw THE COLLECTOR. Why? I like Josh Stewart and I will always see the first film in a new horror franchise. This is done by the same peeps who did the SAW movies. It had an interesting 'new' catch and I am quite sure there will be more. It is bloody, icky and enjoys showing new ways of torturing people. I will never see another one since they will just follow the same pattern as this film. If you like films like this then wait for the DVD....it will probably be out by next week
