Rented PENELOPE. I freaking love this little film. It's warm, funny....a feel good film. I would say that this would fall into a 'chick flick' category but guys should enjoy it too. All the actors are wonderful....especially Catherine O'Hare. I must say that the 'slow burn lusting' I've had for James McAvoy since ABOUT JANE has become quite nuclear.

Sorry but I hated Penelope... it just did nothing for me. :?

I went to see Wall-E last night with 5 other people from church... total blast... I loved the movie, so cute and funny. I especially loved the mini-cartoon with the magician and his rabbit.

Dark Knight tanked in 3rd act. Heath channeling Lizard King Goth Jim Morrison not Acad Award worthy IMHO.

You know who is?

That guy who played Commish Gordon. Gary Oldham totally disappeared into character.

Why why two villains???? ( 3 --if you count a cameo at the beginning -- or is that an outtake?)

Mr. Bean's Holiday - God awful. I hated that movie and I could feel brain cells dying with every extra minute I sat and watched it.

Sweeney Todd - I thought this was extremely good. It came highly recommended, and it didn't disappoint. The only complaints I had were that it seemed fairly predictable at some points (but I think that probably had more to do with the play than the movie) and the deaths didn't seem that realistic. Someone told me that was a Tim Burton thing, though.

Saw The Dark Knight on Saturday and I have to say I loved it. Didn't really see the the relevance of The Scarcrow's appearance *SPOILER* and was also expecting Two-Face to outlive the movie, as I thought he was lined up to play a part in the next installment, but I guess that's what you get for reading too many scraps of information post-production. *SPOILER ENDS*

Have to confess that I love Christian Bale as Batman, but I love him in most films, I think he's pretty cool.

Loved The Joker, just think its a shame Heath Ledger will no longer have the opportunity to reprise the role. Award worthy? Not so sure. Psychoatic? Absolutely.

Also rented No Country for Old Men, which I thought was slow, but watchable and Be Kind Rewind, which was ridiculous, but fun at the same time.

I think Dark Knight was being set up more for reprisal of Joker (& alas for them Heath took a different turn :(), so not sure what they are going to do now.

Felt like it nearly got a bit too on the 'lotsa villains = good' but it didn't do a Spidey 3 (which did IMHO tip those scales).

Doc - loved Gary Oldman. Hmmmm, Sirius Black was nowhere to be seen.

Actually thought DK had quite the list of 'method'/submersion style actors.....

Had read about the Jolie option rumour. After seeing DK, was a discussion as to who could be possibles for other villians. Didn't think of Depp as a Riddler (though could see how it'd work).

Dark Knight - Good movie. just a bit long, but definitely worth seeing.

X-Files - Big disappointment. It didn't even deal what the core of X-Files was which was UFO conspiracy. It was like a made for TV movie or something that should have been on the Sci-fi Channel.

Saw Dark Knight last night, freaking aaaaaaaaaaawesome.

Right now I'm watching P.S. I Love You and yes I've already gone through about 10 kleenex

The Other Boleyn Girl was complete shit, especially since I watch the Tudors and Eric Bana was no King Henry.

MUMMY 3 - Le sigh. I was bored. Damn I was hoping it was going to be at least a little good. So disappointed.

HAROLD AND KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY - I truly do like Kumar and Harold and I was chuckling along until they got to Kumar's dream and I just tuned out. I don't mind gross for the most part but this was rank gross. Lost interest.

DOOMSDAY - I liked it. Very bloody and a lot of action. I rented it because both my sons drool over Rhona Mitra and I wanted them to see her kick some serious butt....and she does.

Watched one of my faves on cable...THE MATCHMAKER. What a lovely movie!! I forgot David O'Hara was in it as the male romantic lead. It just amazed me that this is the same actor who plays such delicious bad guys (like in DOOMSDAY). Goodness has he changed!!! Love his raspy voice now.

Finally saw Dark Knight. Excellent movie!

Got Stargate Continuum. I loved it. It felt like a movie, not an episode, which surprised me but also pleased me. Stargate the Ark of Truth felt like a long episode to me. I enjoyed it but was slightly disappointed by that. Continuum was great. The story line was interesting, it had everybody in it, including Don S. Davis which was awesome.

Finally saw MAMA MIA!... I wasn't expecting to be impressed by the casting, but I didn't think they'd kill the joy of the show. It really lives and breathes better on stage where there is no pretense that this is real life. They cut some great jokes, overdid other ones, and generally messed with the pacing. *sigh* And at the end, they tried to do the "curtain calls" & "encore" theatre style. Newsflash - it don't work!

The chick playing Sophie was probably the strongest singer, but dang, I know the character is supposed to be 20; she looked and acted more like 16. Decent voice, though. Meryl Streep didn't do half bad. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to listen to a CD of her singing, but I've seen worse. Pierce Bronson on the other hand.... oh nooooooooooooooooo! Bad, scary, wrong! I felt bad for him cuz I had the feeling he was trying, but he just doesn't have a singing voice.

If you have the chance/choice, spend the money on a ticket to the stage show; you'll have a LOT more fun.

I watched Penelope last night with my sister. Like everyone else said, it was very good. When I saw previews for it when it first came out, and i honestly thought it was going to be stupid, so I'm glad i went out and rented it (and the fact it had a Twilight preview didn't hurt either!).

I also went to see Stepbrothers the other night with a friend. It was pretty funny, yet also extremely disturbing at points. And I saw way more of John Reilly in his underwear than I ever wanted to.

Saw Mummy 3 last night; after hearing so many lack-luster reviews, I was prepared for the worst. I have to admit, I enjoyed it. It wasn't "great" by any stretch of the imagination and it stole heavily from Mummy 2 and Indy 3, but other than the loooong opening sequence, it was fun. I did miss Rachel Weisz, though.

FIATLUX WROTE:Pierce Bronson on the other hand.... oh nooooooooooooooooo!

I think there should be something in the Geneva Convention against Pierce Brosnan singing Abba. He sounded like Michael Bolton six months out of practice. As for the rest of the movie... the first 30 minutes I felt I was watching the mother of all chick flicks. It was dripping with teen estrogen.

Mummy 3... , if you consider that it's the second sequel in a franchise that didn't invent anything to start with... it's pretty good.
Officially twisted since 1971.

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS - Okay.....it's soooooooooooooooooooo stupid that I nearly died laughing at some parts in the movie. I brought my husband and mother along and I nearly peed my pants laughing due to their moaning and groaning. This film is so bad that it is ridiculously funny. Hope that makes sense!

Can't wait to see TROPIC THUNDER. I really hope that it is genuinely funny because the premise is ingenious. And hey!!! Robert Downey Jr., Ben Stiller and Jack Black together...

TROPIC THUNDER - In a way I thought this film was quite brilliant and yet not perfection for a comedy. Great movie to see for an afternoon matinee. I keep reading in reviews that Robert Downey Jr. steals the movie but I think everyone was perfect in their roles. Some laugh out loud moments and Matthew McConaughey, Tom Cruise  and Steve Coogan were a hoot. I think I am crushing on Danny Mc Bride after this movie coupled with his turn in PINEAPPLE EXPRESS.

Rented LOST BOYS THE TRIBE - Hey!!! Don't look at me that way!! Curiosity. It was pretty bad but it was great seeing Corey Feldman reprise his role as Edgar Frog surfboard shaper/vampire hunter/ordained minister.

Woody - I didn't think P.E. was bad....just so inanely stupid and over the top that you can't help but groan and giggle. I think it is a movie that makes you smile AFTER you see it because certain scenes come back and grab you. I simply adore Danny McBride and his ending comment in the movie had me howling :D

Elephant - absolutely awesome albeit disturbing. Captivating and very unusual camera angles.

DEATH RIDE - nothing that I didn't expect. Mindless entertainment with the car crashes and blood and guts splattering everywhere. I'm still surprised that Joan Allen was in it  Jason Statham (yum) looks a little older and tired. Previews for TRANSPORTER III look decent and JS looks better.

Rented STREET KINGS and I didn't think it was half as bad as the reviews said it was. Decent flick but only for dvd rental or wait for cable. Keanu Reeves looks so much older and harsher now....but still lickable.

I was channel surfing this past weekend and settled on a 1974 flick callled FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN and all I can say is....             . This is supposed to be a cult flick. Extremely bad acting and stooooooooooooooopid dialogue with a lot of bad fake blood. I was stunned when the lead actor playing Dr. Frankenstein got himself 'off' by running his fingers through the guts of his female experiment. Nudity, kinky sex, so guess this would be a bad German erotica horror film. I am ALMOST speechless ;)

BABYLON A.D...............Huh? I didn't think it was as bad as 99% of the reviews said and then came the big HUH?

BORDERTOWN - This must have been a straight to video film. Great cast of actors. Jennifer Lopez was very good. It was refreshing to see her in good acting form. Based on the 1,000's of Mexican women who have been killed along the Mexican and U.S. border. Thousands dead and still being killed but it is in the best interests fofree trade and the rich powerful to keep this quiet . This is actually a very good movie.

Oh, Oh....I remember one that I saw!!!!! Rented FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. It had its funny moments....especially between Russell Brand and Bill Hader involving sex lessons and a giant chess board  I've seen Russell Brand before, briefly, but I found that I really liked him. Bill Hader was a hoot and I have to give props to Jason Segel for letting it 'all hang out'....several times. He actually wrote the movie.

Sadly, I don't ever seem to be able to make it the movies. Hard to get a sitter and expensive once you do. Oh well.

The last one I saw in the theater was JUNO. Then we rented IRON MAN. Loved it! Of course, what's not to love with Robert Downey, Jr. Also watched BLADES OF GLORY, which is only hilarious if you are into figure skating, which I am.

Am planning on taking my eldest to see HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 though. Perhaps it will have sexy vampires taking over the school and SMG will make a surprise appearance...

I did rent KUNG FU PANDA this week. This is one of those movies where I would feel funny going to the theater to see without a child attached to my hand but I held my head up proudly at the video store  Absolutely darling. I actually sat down and read my latest ET magazine and I was intrigued by Stephen King's list of the ten best movies of 2008....so totally different then was you would expect. Anyway, he mentioned REDBELT by David Mamet. You either think Mamet is brilliant or you want to yell at him. I tend to appreciate him especially since STATE AND MAIN is a gem of a movie that is buried in my heart. REDBELT never made it to the theaters (maybe the art house ones) but I decided to rent it because of the cast, specifically Chiwetel Ejiofor whom I consider one of the best damn actors today. It's about an instructor of JIU-JITSU Brazilian style and his code of honor. There are plot twists galore and moral dilemmas and an interesting ending. I liked the movie and I appreciated the supporting cast....Joe Mantegna, Emily Mortimer and Tim Allen.

STEPHEN KING's list of the 10 best movies of 2008....in case you're curious:
10. DEATH RACE
9. REDBELT
8. THE RUINS
7. LAKEVIEW TERRACE
6. THE BANK JOB
5. FUNNY GAMES
4. TROPIC THUNDER
3. WALL-E
2. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
1. THE DARK KNIGHT

Interesting huh?!

I don't know how it happened, maybe it was spending Christmas Eve at my cousin's for a family gathering but she put on THE BISHOP'S WIFE and then IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE and since then, I have been watching 'golden oldies' Don't get me wrong here, there are several 'old' movies that I like and have fond memories of but I just don't sit down and watch them....to watch them. I guess this is due to the fact that the tv was like my babysitter growing up and I always watched the afternoon matinees when I wasn't roller skating or playing baseball (tomboy here). I just finished watching THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and enjoyed it. I must admit that Steve McQueen was quite the cutie! Charles Bronson wasn't bad either when he was younger. I'm watching ROCKY right now and maybe watch RAMBO later when I'm packing for my [i]escape[i] to Florida and warmth. Any oldies you like to watch??

I plan to sit on the beach and read while in Florida but I will go to the movies......dying to see GRAN TORINO and NIXON/FROST.

Just rented TRAITOR and BURN AFTER READING. Enjoyed them both. The ads for BURN are very deceiving because it is not a laugh out loud comedy (well, there are a few scenes)....it's very much a dark comedy that tickles the funny bone. The Coen brothers weave their magic so well and the acting is wonderful. Later I HAVE to watch the third movie I rented THE DUCHESS ....a period drama with Keira Knightly and Raplh Fiennes. Love period dramas :P

My husband and I are so lame with the movies that we finally got around to watching SERENITY.

ducks to avoid any flying objects

It took us finding hulu.com before we could finally watch FIREFLY ducks again and then there were all these stupid animated movies the kids wanted to watch. Now we are catching up with movies that were actually made recently. And some classics that my husband has never seen. (How does one get through the 90's and not have seen PULP FICTION?! )

So, now I know a few more movies to rent. YAY!

I just went to see Valkyrie with one of my friends last night. While I love all things Hilter (yes, I know it's weird, morbid, and slightly wrong), I did not love this movie. I liked it, but not as much as I thought I would. There were parts that were so slow it was almost boring, which I think is a shame since the real life plot is so interesting to read about.

I also watched Galaxy Quest and Dan in Real Life for the first time. Both movies were extremely funny, DIRL was not your typical Steve Carrell movie.

I'M BAAAACK :D I didn't exactly see the movies I planned on seeing, but here's what I saw.......

GRAN TORINO - Clint Eastwood in Michigan (where I am presently freezing my ass off :( ). Decent film, good message but not the polished film I am used to seeing from Mr. E. I think he picked the actors from locals here and they were okay. Despite all this, I liked the film and cried like a baby at the end. There is nothing like a Clint Eastman growl

DOUBT - Left a very bad taste in my mouth. The acting is excellent but I just couldn't stand the film or the subject matter. They can take this moral parable and shove it....really. I left the theater dissatisfied and with 'doubts'.

UNBORN - Okay, I was coerced to see this. What can a gal do when she makes a promise to her mom? Well, what she does is suffer through a horrible film like. This deserves my pooper scooper award.

THE READER - Very serious film...a dark film but it is incredible. The acting is mesmerizing. Kate Winslet's acting was a bloody revelation!! She deserved the Golden Globe for her role and I hope she gets the Oscar. She probably was amazing in RESERVATION ROAD and deserved the Golden Globe for that film but I don't plan to see it due to the storyline.

I just have to find time now to see SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Can't believe I didn't see it while in Florida!! Damn!! Same with THE WRESTLER.....I am a Mickey Rourke fan

I am sooooooo ready for an 'escape' film and I can't wait for UNDERWORLD - RISE OF THE LYCANS!!! I simply adore Michael Sheen and even though he has a rep for being a great actor, I am so looking forward to seeing him having a lead role in this film growling all over the place as Lucien :P :P

Geez....doesn't anyone else watch movies????????

What does one do when the weather is in the single digits and the wind chill factor puts the temp at around -10? When you can't move because you have 5 layers of clothes on to stay warm while you keep the heat down in the house so you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for gas? When you've had 25 inches of accumulated snowfall so you can ONLY walk where the snow has been cleared? When you have to get out of your car at the end of your driveway to see OVER the 5 foot mound of snow to see if traffic is coming?

You veg and watch movies during the down times. At least I do. I don't remember most of the movies I watched but from what I remember...

I braved the cold for the new UNDERWORLD movie...RISE OF THE LYCANS. I enjoyed it but wished it had been longer. I remember when the first UNDERWORLD came out, I found myself riveted to the screen wherever the Lucien character was on the screen. I didn't even know who Michael Sheen was at the time. He's become more high profile in the passing years with the roles he has been given so I was tickled that he had a starring role in this flick and he didn't disappoint IMHO. Gotta love the way Bill Nighy chews up the screen. I didn't get the other 2 UNDERWORLD movies, but I will probably buy this one.

VICKY CHRISTINA BARCELONA - Well.....I liked it....mostly. I adore Penelope Cruz and thought she did a fine job here considering the Oscar nod but I think Kate Winslet should get it for THE READER......which means that Meryl Streep will get it for the hard ass nun she played in DOUBT(which I hated). I thought Penelope Cruz was incredible in VOLVER, her last nomination with the Academy.

ROCK N ROLLA- I bloody well LOVED this film. I like Guy Ritchie films. I like the twists and turns and the dialogue. Be forewarned, you may have to watch this AFTER you have locked up your pets, put muzzles on family members and never move from where you are sitting. RItchie films are like watching a movie with subtitles...your eyes can't leave the screen and you have to pay attention to the dialogue or you can get lost unless you keep pressing the 'back' buton on your remote. I read awesome reviews in ET magazine back when LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS came out, so I went to see it and it still remains as a favorite flick for me.

BOTTLE SHOCk - Indie film about French wines vs. Napa Valley wines back in 1976. Lovely cast and one of my favorites....Alan Rickman. Sweet little film....loved it.

Re-watched STATE AND MAIN. Is there anyone who DOESN"T love this fine movie? Always a joy.

I can't believe I am going to say this but I re-watched GHOST which I thought was pure sclock back when except for Whoopi Goldberg. I actually liked it a wee bit this time around.

There's more but I can't remember. I find that I am suffering from constant brain freeze. Ah Michigan :?
